Packing sticks with JX3

I can't afford beast sticks or Shikars right now and have a couple sets of full length heliums. My nephew said he'd buy me a set of the 20" heliums and trade for a full size set. One concern is the sticks not laying flat against the mesh of the seat and damaging it.

Another consideration; I am pretty tall and can handle a longer step. I have webbing aiders and just ordered a versa aider. Would I be better off cutting a full size set of hawks down, but longer than the 20" hawks? Say 22.5" or 25"

For those that pack sticks with JX3, can you share experience on what options work best? Do the 30" hawks pack ok? Do the 20" hawks pack ok? Should I get API instead? Does it matter because of the leg straps when the JX3 is folded up?

Thanks for any insight you can offer!

I used my hybrid almost exclusively last year. However I did the one stick method most of the time. One stick fits easily between the seat. However after buying different expensive sticks I am back at the regular Lone Wolf sticks. For the weight I think they are great sticks and they do stick out the side but that does not bother me. You can also strap sticks to the back and just let them sit there underneath the tiedown straps. I hope this helps you

I’m wondering if I’ve missed the magic method somewhere, and I’ve searched. But last year I wasn’t really satisfied with how I was packing my sticks... these are chopped LWs and they’re too short to lay horizontal flat across the back without rubbing bad. I also don’t like putting weight at more distance from my torso. This year I’m attempting a length of webbing run around the pack frame, over top of the sticks, under the leg / tightening loops, and over top of the other end of the sticks to a buckle. I just put this together tonight, at least hopping around with it in the garage, feels very promising. Once the packs disassembled you can just click the buckle to the frame while you hunt. Yes I’m not really a walk up to the tree and start climbing guy, but most of the season I have to put on more layers at the base of the tree anyway.
