Palmettos

Think about all the times u have jumped deer in the palmettos.....what do they do? Bound 4 or 5 bounds and u never see or hear them again. I think they stop and duck down and just stay frozen till they hear the threat move off or until they know they need to fully commit to getting away and then take off crashing thru

I know for a fact they stop and lay down lol I’ve witnessed it on the ground and from the stand. Took me awhile to figure that bc I’d jump them stalking then continue to stalk, loose them and then they pop up again from where they stopped lol I hunt a lot from the ground in palmetto and only with my recurve bc most of the time I’m on hands and knees meandering through with touching as little as possible and yes you can get away with a bit more noise but that’s a double edge sword. Best when wind blowing to cover your noise but it’s impossible to hear a dear with the wind. And in tall palmetto I sit up in spot where if a deer would be shootable it would be 5 or less yards.
