Perception of saddle hunting

So this weekend i had some continuing Education out of town and stayed at a hotel. Instead of joining the pissing contest that happens at the bar at these things i decided to hole myself into my room and try to splice eyes on my predator ropes. Well, late into the night i decided to call it quits and just get new ropes ordered with spliced ends. I get up and leave early for my class without cleaning up much.

During class i start to think about what housekeeping will think when they walk in and see ropes attached to random things around the hotel room and my kestrel laying on the bed. I hope they had a good laugh and i am glad i don't live anywhere near that hotel.

I finally found a local hunter who has actually heard of saddle hunting. That is the first one ever. He heard about it on a podcast.
I have talked to people from Ontario who are on this forum but I have never met a local that has even heard about it or was interested in trying a saddle.

Believe after this year the perception of saddle hunting is going to change!! I mean its already grown so much since i have been saddling since 2013. It is the only way to hunt imho. I have been strictly saddles since 2016 and have been exponentially more successful as a hunter seeing more and have been keying in on several bruisers more and more each year. We are growing and the community will adapt to us or get left behind lol!!

I haven’t had many guys ask anything other than... “you hang from THAT thing!?!?”

I would guess that most hunters haven't even heard of it.

I'm from a pretty rural town where deer hunting is pretty deeply rooted. I mean we had the first day of deer season off from school deep and had no idea until I stumbled across it when doing some research.

Yup. Agreed. When hunters hear about it, a light bulb goes off for most of them.

The light bulb went off for me last year while I was hanging a lock on. I was using my heliums and was standing on them about 12 foot up in the tree when 3 does by. They were within 10 yards for more than 5 minutes and had no idea I was there. I knew then I was going to have to give this saddle thing a try. This will be my first year using one. Cant wait to see some of the looks I get from the guys I hunt with.

I would like to see someone at are West Virginia hunting and fishing days at Stonewall State Park and maybe a WV hunting expo in Charleston. They are a lot of hunters that go to both these events. I think you would do well at both events with the Mantis and predator platform. Letting other hunters set in the saddle and stand on the platform.

I think being a saddlehunter is kind of like being a Rush fan. It's technical, it's not for everyone, but if you're into it you can go DEEP.
Love that!!! Huge Rush fan and just recently bought my first saddle..... Havent even got it yet but already i know im gonna love it!

I thought Rush the band...guess I'll have to look into this Rush fellow and see for myself.

I think it's really getting popular. I've heard more about saddle hunting from podcasts, etc. recently and I didn't know they existed until a few years ago. Also, Amazon suggestions for the Sit-Drag don't lie... Apparently people purchase them with the Ropeman1 and a bag, too.
