Petzl rig

Has anyone tried a Petzl Rig? They advertise it as auto locking and not needing to be tied off to safely use while working. That seems like exactly what some folks here are searching for. Don’t think I’ll be using it as the rope diameter usage is limited to 10-11.5 and appears to be a rather large device but not everyone dangles from dental floss like some of us.
The grigri+ is for 8.5-11mm, so it’s not quite the dental floss holder, but it’s below 9. I may put it on my resctech just to play with it and see how/if it holds. I use a ropeman 1 on smaller than spec line, but with a larger diameter carabiner to take up some of the rope space.…….Can’t do that with these devices.

I'm still trying to figure a way to work a mini "rope-wrench" style into an efficient system with a foot loop vs. a foot ascender... Currently using a Madrock for hunting purposes, but a lot of different stuff in my gear for rec/arborist climbing.

Anytime you have the word "foot loop" involved, the system generally isn't very efficient :)

You'd actually gain some efficiency with a foot ascender in place of the foot loop. Not a ton, but enough to notice.

Point taken! Maybe we'll say "efficiency" but viewed through the scope of minimizing gear requirements for hunting. I do climb SRS with both foot and knee ascender as my preferred method elsewhere...

My SAKA has a foot loop... ;)

Me too! Yea I have the SAKA too. I've thought of bringing in my full SRS, but never have for hunting.

This is how I climb RADS (for hunting):

I personally don't mind hauling in the footie

I like the ability with the QR to remove from the rope easily. I opted to not use a RnL because you have to remove the carabiner to install/ remove it from the rope.

SRS, typically on Mercury or KMIII, I prefer the Rope Runner Pro (tended with chest rig setup) and a SAKA in conjunction with the Jet Step. I will use a ZigZag, rope wrench(s), lanyard(s), and Captain Hook setup with mini-rope wrench or Safeguard in a mechanically advantaged system for work positioning and traversing...

How do you like kmiii with the RRP? I decided to finally try one of Notch's recommend ropes (Dragonfly 11.1mm). On a bollard setting of 3, I have to say it is the smoothest I've ever felt ascending and descending. I've tried Poison Moon, XStatic, KMIII max to compare.

I've used it on a bunch of ropes, and I actually think that I prefer the KMIII Max over the others that I've tried (personally). I'm not super dense, so I don't really have to choke the RRP down to get it to hold. I think it's pretty dang smooth. All that being said (not doing this as a profession), until I need new ropes, I doubt I'll try anything else. I've run Predator, Mercury, KMIII Max, Velocity, Blaze, and Hawkeye through various systems...

I have used KMIII Max and you are right ! Works great with my Roperunner and is tough as nails. I have been using Phantom as of late and it is a great kermantle choice.
