Phantom Uncomfortable

I never could get comfortable in Phantom or Mantis. But my first saddle was a Kestrel which I thought was super comfy. Now I am using a Cruzr and the hammock for your butt analogy is pretty dead on.

What exactly is considered saddle shape? I’m in the best shape of my life, no issues climbing or maneuvering in the saddle, just can’t get comfortable no matter the angles I’ve tried. I’m always trying to make my hanging time better so any insight is appreciated.

So saddle shape is a popular term that in my opinion has become less relevant. The thought is you need a certain amount of tree time to get used to the pressure points that some saddles can create. I think you just need to find the right adjustments for sitting/standing that make saddle shape not applicable. Or find a different saddle..... my 2 cents......

I have not read all of the posts...but what I read would work for some. Two years ago, I got my first saddle...tethered and the platform. Got it and found that I had major hip pinch. Could not get comfortable and I hunted out of it for 8 hours in late december. Nothing I tried..high tether and long bridge, forehead height and shorter bridge...every combination. I was about to just get rid of the saddle and found areo hunter and the kestrel. Bought it, sold the tether saddle and bought the kestrel. Almost a night and day difference, but still a slight hip pinch. I was going to just suffer through it...no biggee...then Areo hunter came out with the flex. I thought that was amazing...I only had my kestrel for two weeks when the flex came out. Sold the kestrel and bought the Flex...thought if the flex does not combat the hip pinch then I'll just a little. Got the flex and it was like flowing honey. Crazy comfortable and zero and I mean ZERO hip pinch. I hunted last season with it sun up to sun down on several different occassions. The flex will cup my but...I like to have the back higher and the leg portion down. Meaning I open up my flex to be a hammock in a sense. Which makes perfect sense to me because I hammock camp year round.

As far as me being a fan boy...I have the tether predator platform, had the first tethered saddle, the phantom and the XL. Sold both saddles due to that hip pinch and the XL because I held the mission in my hands.

Oh, and I was brow beaten by a couple of fan boys who questioned my discomfort, but several good men on here came to my defense and told them to shove it before I could.

Saddle shape is a term used by companies that sell somewhat uncomfortable saddles. It means you get used to the hip pinch over time and the pain no longer bothers you. Phantom has the very best marketing team. But it is not the most comfortable saddle for many people, some guys like it or have never tried anything else. Saddle preferences are somewhat personal and somewhat the design. Some guys like the phantom but almost everyone's more comfortable in some of the other brands if they have tried them.

When you have the Hunting Public using Tethrd products everyone knows about the phantom. I had an electrician in today asking about saddle hunting. He saw it on the Hunting Public and all he knew about was the phantom. I love the show and we talked about the show and I showed him my JX3 and TX5 and Cruzr XC and said these are way more comfortable. I think the H2 and Flex and Kestrel and recon and method are more comfortable too but still not as good as a lazy boy or hammock.

One of my friends got into saddle hunting on his own (like me) and bought the first one that he researched (like me) and got the Phantom. I met with him and he was telling me how comfortable it was but that he too had a pinch and couldn't get rid of it. I told him to meet me at my local park and threw him my saddle and my platform. Got him in the flex and his eyes glassed over. He couldn't believe how comfortable that the flex was in comparison to the Phantom. Told me that was a mistake sitting in the flex. I told him he could sell that phantom for exactly what he paid for it. I bought a phantom after in June at one of the tethered meet and greets for my 15 year old son. Got him to sit in it and sit in my saddle...needlesss to say I sold the phantom and ordered the Flex in a size 1. It works for some, but like OF stated..."but almost everyone's more comfortable in some of the other brands if they have tried them."

Spent 4 hours in my Phantom tonight and I tried everything I could to get comfortable and it just did not happen.. I even started looking into LWCG hang-ons at one point.. I’m going to start looking for another saddle though. Love the quality of all my Tethrd stuff, the Phantom is just not for me.

Hello I have a Phantom as well and almost threw it out after my first four hour sit. Then I made this for about $2 and changed everything.
the pvc is 13 inches slid into two pvc T”s
Hope it helps.
