Picked up a new saddle pistol

Nice!
I have the 40 mos 10 mm.
I am getting a CVA 6.5 cm single shot as we speak!

Just set up the FFL.
That is my gun for this season although I have not **** a deer with the long slide.
Picked up a CVA Scout in 300BO for the saddle this year and keeping my eye out for one in 6.5G.

The shotgun is a PITA when moving around the tree so the pistol should be a nice addition.

One of those youtubers needs to do a pistol scope video showing what is out there.
Finding scopes with long eye relief vs having to use a scout scope type is a pain when you’re sporting a rifle caliber!

Closed emitter red dot. All you need inside of 100y-150y and you probably shouldn't be taking farther pokes unless you have a bipod.

There may be something new on the market because I haven’t kept up but Leupold and Burris are the two main options. I like the 2x, 4x and the Burris 2-7 for hunting. They all have wider fields of view at shorter ranges and short enough eye reliefs to be shootable from a stand. The Leupold 2.5-8 is another good one. I use the Bushnell 3200’s for silhouette shooting because of their longer eye relief but it’s too long for me in the stand.

Those are all pistol scopes btw, not scout scopes.

I've been wanting a scout in 300 and a 45/70 smokeless muzzleloader conversion.

Hop on YouTube and search the bunny fart load for 300blk. Trail boss is done and gone which sucks but it was great for the BF load.

Using Nosler ammo and a red dot, the 300BO is just over 1" at 50y. Zero'd at 25y, I should be +/- 2" or less drop out to 150y.

Love the 6.5G ballistics and the Scout in that caliber comes with a cerakote barrel. As an aside, the safety on the Scout is easy to remove and the hole is 3/16" if someone were inclined to remove the safety and plug the hole.

I’m hoping this is the year for a handgun deer. I have a G20 10mm with a Burris red dot that’s shooting 180xtp’s very accurately. I also have a cva scout pistol 350 legend that’s been accurate out to 150. I put a vortex crossfire scout scope on it and it works great!
I'm sort of thinking about trying the g20 for deer too. My thought is set up in a thicket with my turkey chair and rest the 10mm between my knees. Keep the shots 25 and under. Shooting iron sights. I did some shooting earlier this year out to 100 yards from the turkey chair like that and was able to bounce around one of those big 1 gallon "tin cans" with my 200 grain handload hard cast at 1200 fps.

I called vortex and they recommended only the crossfire and said it would work perfect.
It a-lot more affordable than the Burris or Leupold I been considering.
There are reviews on the UTG scope that are about the same money as Crossfire.
So you vouch for crossfire having proper eye relief with arm extended?

Thanks again

I have a crossfire scout. It doesn’t really have eye relief like leupold pistol scope. In 2 power it’s closer to a pistol scope. On 7 power it’s more like a rifle scope. It works good, it’s fairly light. I can’t even remember at this point if I answered the question, lol

Question for those with scopes on their pistols and shake.

Are you using rests/bipods or are you truly that steady with your pistol? The chief advantage for me and reddots is I can't see the shake and thus don't try to compensate. Same with variable power optics vs. fixed power. While nice to zoom in, it provides one more fiddle factor to deal with vs. having something you can't adjust.

The short answer is yes, they shake. The higher the power the the worse it is. I have a spartan adapter and tripod if I’m shooting more than 50 yards.

Weaver Classic Series Handgun Scope 2-6x32mm it's held up well on my 35 whelen Encore.

I forgot about the Weaver, that's a good scope. I have one on a pistol that hasn't used in a long time but it withstood some punishment.

I think several scopes are good.
It comes down to eye relief being as good.

Me thinks..

Did some more work on my 10mm today. I ended up taking the silicone carbide off the front strap and dimpled it instead fitted a Harrison design fixed rear sight and got rid of the full length guide rod replacing it with a Wilson Combat GI standard. Anyone that is a true 1911 fan knows the reason I went this way :) Flared magazine well too. I also am trying different grips the vz ones felt good but sure tore up my palm with full power 200gr loads.
