Pimp or replace the jet sled?

I think runners are a must if you want your sled to last. Instead of using a runner kit I used snowmobile hyfax on both my otter and jet sled. Way harder material and little more ground clearance. I drag them over concrete and gravel all the time and I'm amazed at the lack of even scratches in the hyfax.
For the rope attachment I put a piece of 1/2" x 3" wide hardwood from one side to the other on the inside of the sled. Rope breaks before the sled ever gets damaged.
Hyfax is what they use in the runner kits.

I have an XL jet sled and have pulled deer out up to 225 pounds dressed. Few bungee cord to hold legs in and I’ve never had a problem. Hard bottom to get over rocks and blow downs and sticks yet smooth enough to slide over snow ice and water. Love it!

Not necessarily. I feel like the sled will last longer though. Especially on gravel and concrete.
I have had one wear a hole in the bottom. But sportsman’s guide sells em cheap on sale. Got mine for 69 bucks I think. If it lasts 4-5 years of hunting setting stands dragging deer and ice fishing I’m happy. Plus all the wood it hauls in between

I have an XL jet sled that I use. It is by far the best option I have found for getting the whole deer out. Nothing is easy about dragging a large deer out of the woods, but the jet sled makes it easier than anything else IMHO. I hunt solo 100% of the time and my jet sled was a big improvement in my process. I have used it to get out around 30 deer since 2015.
Do you ever find that you want one size smaller? I just ordered a large otter but am wondering if I made the right choice on size (64 x 29)

Do you know the dimensions of that sled?

I never find myself wanting one smaller, but when I used a smaller one I found myself wanting it bigger.

That is the XL jet sled. Dimensions are

66" L x 31" W x 12" H

The only reason I would want it smaller was when I was carrying it inside the truck. For the past 8 or 9 years I have a cargo carrier mounted on the front of my truck and the sled just stays on there all hunting season. It took a little research to find one that fit this size sled but its a pretty slick setup that I have at this point. Once I get to the truck I just pop the front up on the cargo carrier and slide it in. I would say probably between 40 and 50 deer have gone for a ride in the sled on the front mounted cargo carrier at this point.

I'm curious as to why you just do not load it in the back of your pickup? I like the idea of these cargo carriers if you're not using a pick up though. Just curious. Super heavy deer are hard to lift all the way up into the bed of a standard sized pickup but a couple of two by fours as a ramp help me with that or even sticks if I forgot my two by fours. The most ideal setup is a lightweight foldable atv or garden tractor ramp AND the jet sled to load into the pickup by yourself.

I don't have a pickup, I have a 4runner and prefer the suv. I used to have a fj cruiser and hauled some deer and a bear up into the back of that... it's much easier to just haul it a foot or so up onto the carrier.

@redsquirrel I'm curious about the front hauler attached to your 4runner. I love mine and have a rear hauler but everything gets dirty. Do you remember the manufacturer for your front carrier?

Most public here that I hunt will have a road system that leads to parking areas that have trail head leaving from there. What I do is leave the game cart (academy brand) and the sled at the truck. If I end up needing to drag something I'll take note of how the trip back to the truck is.... Normally it will consist of a mixture of terrain like u talking about @iamcorey..... Mix of swamp/mud and high ground and then down the limestone road... The sled fits on cart... Just carry some extra straps or rope and u can get the loaded sled strapped to the cart.... Less than 100 bucks for 2 useful tools. During this off season I'm gonna figure out the best way to attach them together and make something to make it as painless a process as possible, try to add buoyancy enough to make the sled float a deer easily, and modify/make a little storage pouch to attach to the cart and then that part of my hunt system I'll be complete.

PLEASE post that when you are done. I have the academy cart because you recommended it and I love it. Used it last night actually!

but your combo idea sounds awesome. You could have your kill kit attached to it it’s all in one place.
