Pipe and cigar talk

Also, use matches to light a pipe or at worse, a torch lighter. Dont ruin it with a bic!!!

Well I jumped part of the way into the pipe game today. I went by our local cigar store and bought a tin of Peterson Night Cap. I was going to buy the Maltese Falcon but I was talking to the girl and she said the nightcap was one of their most popular flavors and they had a hard time keeping it in stock. She said it usually sells out as soon they get it in and I noticed they only had one tin left so I bought it. They had just gotten the Maltese Falcon and had a bunch of it so I’ll probably go back and get some of that also. Anyway when I got home I did some research and I see a lot of talk about how strong of a blend it is and it might not be as pleasant to the others around you. So it might not have been the best choice. I don’t even have a pipe yet but I plan to get a corn cob pipe. I’m hoping to get to smoke a few rounds on a family camping trip next week after everyone goes to bed. Do y’all have any other blends you would recommend to try that might not be quite so strong. Again I haven’t even smoked the night cap yet so it may be fine. Just curious what else y’all would recommend for me to look at.

No advise on a blend (because I'm an aromatic guy), but if you're going to get a cob, go with a Missouri Meerschuam Legend. In fact, get two of them. You'll need two if you plan on smoking more than once a week. Grab a bent stem and a straight stem. It'll be about $16.

I’ve been looking at the Missouri Cobs on Amazon. From the videos I’ve watched they supposedly smoke really well. I want to pick up an aromatic blend to.

Also I’ve been watching some of the Muttnchop pipers videos on YouTube. He has some pretty good content.

You're camping. They've gone to bed. You can even smoke the stinkiest, smokiest cigar without disturbing people, unless you insist on hotboxing in a shared tent or camper or something. I would not worry at all in that situation. That's more of a concern indoors or sitting together at the same table or similar.

@Petrichor had some good-looking suggestions on blends a page ago.

Please never use a torch. You will kill a pipe that way. Soft flame butane only. Yes BICs use butane and definitely can be used for pipe. Though matches are preferable.

I would buy Missouri meerschaum pipes from the source or a reputable dealer. Amazon I cannot speak for.

edit: looked on Amazon and they say they are selling Missouri meerschaum. They have a lot of the current models. May be another reason to keep my prime account around.

I've had a real relaxing time smoking a pipe. Hope you do too!
Since you seem to be getting all comfy, maybe it is time to broaden your horizon's. Maybe give W.E. Garrett a try. Mind you, it's not for smokin but a pack will last you more than 45 minutes for sure.

Nah. Used to dip a lot in the Navy when I couldn't smoke. Not looking to get into something I can't walk away from. One pipe in the evening is good enough for me.

Learned about Garrett from my uncle's mother who at the time was 89 or 90. If she was awake and not at the eatin table, she had a dip of Garrett. Went to get a dip of copenhagen and she asked what I had. I showed her the can and she laughed and said that's kids baccer, here you need to try mine and pulls out her can.

Lol, one pipe...
LOL, one saddle (heck, a fleece blanket and some cord!), one climbing method, one platform, one set of ropes...

I may or may not have a package arriving Friday with 3 pipes and half a dozen or so mixtures as a 'starter-pack' to sample...so I can't even pretend that one is realistic. However a midgrade MM cob and a tin of good tobacco are the price of 2-3 "decent" cigars and I should easily outlast those cigars.

Clearly you can spend as much or as little as you want on pipes. But if you buy an inexpensive option and would otherwise be smoking a cigar, it pays for itself in like 3 bowls!
