I saw dave's post and it reminded me of this diy. I built it for the same reasons he uses his nucanoe. I built a 12ft for myself and a 14ft for my hunting buddy. Wood is by far the quietest option in using a boat.
These are made with 1/4 marine ply sides and 3/8marine ply bottom with cypress frame work all held together with stainless screws and marine epoxy. My 12ft weighs in at 60#s. Once finished everything was coated with epoxy and then painted. I believe that added a lot to the weight.

That's a nice build man!! A lot of work goes into a project like that and it turned out great. I've used a kayak for hunting access a few times to get into a place where boats couldn't go. Pretty effective.

swampsnyper, you continue to impress me more every day! nice build!

Thanks guys. I just like to tinker. I've been asked by a few people to build them one. The time I put into building these boats and the process I used is way too time consuming to charge a fair price that I wouldn't be embarrassed to ask for.

Very nice..what ya have in material cost?

I'm wondering the same. Doesn't look like much in wood. But all the rest may or may not add up quickly, I guess depending on what you do. Looks like you did it very well. So whatever you think you have in materials would be helpful. I can't do this but I have a master carpenter for a best friend - nice perk!

My buddy said he is in during the off season. So if you have any plans, advice, tricks or tips... I'm all ears. Yours turned out perfectly for what I'm looking for!!!

Don't have any plans but got a lot of ideas from a boat building forum that I can't remember at the time. Just search building pirogues. They have plans you can buy and some online. I just took it all in and knew what I wanted and came up with my own as I went.

Cool project; great pirogue!

I ordered the plans for one of these about 10 years ago from an online source. I started the project but abandoned it and just bought a Hobie Revolution kayak...

You're making me want to dig out those instructions and give this another attempt. You did a great job on this project.

LOL It was hard enough with electricity and power tools. But if I can horde enough duct tape, I think we can survive longer than most others!
