Plain ol Lone Wolfs

I run plain lone wolfs without any major mods. I put bicycle tubing on my cam buckles and have a single step aider on the bottom step. That's it.

Personally, I feel like @DaveT1963 nailed it when he cut down his heliums and implemented a single, moveable aider. It just hits the sweet spot. I did the on-sale APIs that way, and really like them used in conjunction with my wind Walker.

I can get higher with three sticks this way than I could with 4 standard lone wolf sticks. Setup time is the same. The single aider is very stable. Less weight, and the sticks nest with the windwalker PERFECTLY. They do not stick out at all.

But I do like the cambuckles with a cut-in-half yakgrip to silence it. Cheaper, more secure-feeling to me, and very intuitive to use.

Mine are stock length but I added double steps to the top of each one. I have a little 8inch long mini stick that I created also with a double step that I set beside my top stick which gives me a decent platform.

How do the sticks stack after you added double steps to each one?

Way less cumbersome and lighter. I hunted the better part of 2 seasons with regular lone wolfs. They catch on a lot almost no matter how you carry them. The way they are now I can put them inside my pack and catch on nothing.

I still use the stock lone wolfs. I strap them to my backpack with a retractable ratchet strap on the walk in.

I place my platform inside my backpack until I reach the base of the tree.

I run 4 sticks. With just sticks can get to 18-20ft no problem. With single step aiders 20+ ft.
