I know there is a 50 page thread and I got part way through but still am in the dark. How is a bolt that requires a drill to place preferable to a sharp ameristep tree step that I can just crank in by hand in about 8 turns. Do the bolts also need a socket head or wrench to place and remove?
Thanks

You drill a hole one time. The bolts don’t screw in, you just push them in the drilled hole. Bolts are cheap and strong and you can preset a bunch of trees if you want.

Bolts are easy, steps suck. If you say steps are easy, then think about how much easier bolts will be. Also, bolts are straight and easier to store. Steps are angled and once again, if you say steps are easy to store, bolts are way way easier.

Bolts are cheaper to buy en masse; they’re lighter and easier to transport; they’re much easier to get out of the tree on the way down; and they are much easier and faster to use on repeat hunts to the same tree. Other than that, they’re pretty comparable.

Funny I've never had a problem cranking sharp steps in or out but you had me at cheap :)
