Poor mans beast stick (Pictorial)

Not sure if anyone put the weights on here but here’s what my scale says:

Stock length assembled with no strap the set weighs 9.8 lbs.

Cut down to 24” with no holes no straps the set weighs 7.5 lbs.

Cut down to 24” with 1/2” holes no straps the set weighs 6.9 lbs.

Just under a 10 oz reduction with the 1/2” holes.

Did you use a 1/2” drill bit then a counter set?

Yes, 1/2" drill, 3/4" countersink. The countersink really cleans things up. I can provide other measurements as well if you'd like but I did mine differently than most.

how did you do yours differently vs the others that have been done?

I cut mine off at the top rather than the bottom and cut them a bit shorter than most I have seen. This allowed me to evenly space the holes, something I'm a little OCD about.

id be interested in the measurements so i can compare to my stock sticks and see how everything lays out if possible, thanks

Man those look smooth. I did the 1/2” holes and bought the 3/4 countersink but from Lowe’s but I’m having issues getting a smooth finish. Seems like it wants to jump around. Anyone else run into this?

You should be counter sinking at a very slow speed. I put a stop on my mill to insure same depth.

Countersink is jumping? It did for me too, slowed my drill press way down, that fixed it for me

Yeah I did it with my cordless drill slow and no problem. I guess my drill press it too fast. I’ve got the belt on the slowest speed supposed to be 610 RPM I guess that’s too much? It’s just a porter cable drill press so it’s nothing fancy.

My drill press is just a cheapo Ryobi on the slowest setting and mine is not skipping at all. You sure about your speed?

Yeah I opened up the panel and it has the diagram for belt positions for every speed. 610 is the slowest. I even flip flopped the belt just to check if it was labeled wrong and it went even faster so it’s on the slowest setting.

Unless I’m missing something that’s what I’m working with.
