Last night the wind was finally correct to hunt a spot I knew held a monster. I got in there set up and everything was looking great. About 640 saw the first deer then they just started pouring in. I had 7 deer within 50 yards of me till about 715. That’s when I heard a crashing behind me. Coming through the thicket he stepped out 40 yards. I watched him till he went behind some thick stuff got turned around posed up on the tree to brace for the shot. He came out then went behind some more all wile working towards me. I drew the bow. He stepped out from behind the massive oak tree. All I had was the front shoulder. He had me pinned was starring me hard. He was quartered to me now at 22 yards. I put the sight on the front shoulder so it would exit around 3inchs or so behind the opposite shoulder. Let the arrow fly. Smacked him hard all I could see was the lighted knock as he tore through the thicket. Gave him 30 minutes got down went to first blood. Bright red blood. Marked it went to the truck to change bags as I am over a mile in I was going to quarter him and carry out. My buddy showed up we went back in. For 150yds blood everywhere in the thicket. Then we got to an acorn ridge on the other side couldn’t find anything. So we backed out now I’m going back with a dog to see if he can pick it back up. I’m not using light arrows they are 562grns I’m using a cut on contact fixed blade. I know I hit something hard the shoulder blade or a front rib that slowed the arrow way down. That being said I know the arrow exited bc we were finding blood on both sides of the trail (two trees side by side on opposite sides of the trail) my arrow just didn’t pass all the way through. Really hopping to find this deer he was the biggest deer I’ve ever shot at well over 200lbs (for here that is massive) and outside the ears by a good bit. I’ll let you know what we find when we get back out of the woods!
