I am new to saddle hunting and on a limited budget I found a hawk hangout hunting tree seat I was wondering if anyone else has seen this or has bought one and modified it for a platform it says it will hold 300 pounds and I think just by moving the platform bolt or several inches from the bottom of the post it would work like a predator platform

I considered using one of these before for a platform. Don’t see why it wouldn’t work. Only thing I would caution you is leaning against the edge of it. Looks like the edges are smooth and rounded and might be slick especially with wet boots.

A good work-around for that is to wrap it tightly with 550 cord, which adds texture and only minimal weight.

I think i will order one and mod it. I will post on here when i am done and give an update on it.
The 550 cord sounds limea good idea.
I was thinking about coating it in a Rhino type paint. Any thoughts on that?

That sounds like a good idea. The Ridge Runner I have is coated in that and it’s aggressive as hell. Really good for grip.

I’m going to try one as well. You can’t beat the price.

Your going to want to order some different “feet” where it bites into the tree. They work can be improved for $20. I’m also looking at different options for the strap. It works but it is ratchet style and cumbersome to connect and disconnect

Just an FYI. My buddy modified the Hawk seat. He hated it and gave it to me to mess around with. He ordered lone Wolfe brackets to bite into tree so I gave it a shot. The side pressure sucks! You cannot cam it down because the seat only flaps up. I used rope in addition to ratchet buckle to cam seat over. It works but it’s involved. And the seat is heavy! 5+lbs with the Hawk straps. Pain in the ass at 18’ in the dark.

The bottom lone wolf bracket snapped on me when I was stepping in to platform. The casting is not that good on those brackets. Cheap! Caveat Emptor! (Buyer beware).

I only know this bc I saw it on a video. I have mine as a backup or if I ever find a hot tree I want to leave it in. But you can cam it. Once you’re getting the strap tight you want to “tilt” it up or pull the bottom of the post away from the tree and ratchet a couple more times then it will cam down. I always used a second strap because I had the stock feet and just in case

as with any other cam over style platform it works much better with the platform centered on the stick and good standoffs that bite the tree. there's plenty of threads showing other members' mods to the tree seat to make a great platform.

Hey thanks for posting up pics! What about side pressure? That was another issue prior to the lone wolf brackets. The seat, though strapped tightly, would tilt under side pressure when maneuvering behind the tree.

As long as I strapped in tight I didn’t have problems when I was using it. I even got away with a single strap at times. But it was inconsistent. Sometimes I’d have to adjust it a couple times before I got it right.
