Did a little practice sit today while it was still cool out...4, 3-stepsticks, no aiders, 19' to platform was pretty easy.
Sat/leaned for about 1 hour, and made a few adjustments ... just trying to get comfortable hanging from a small rope (yes, I know it's rated for like 6000+# or something- Dyna Blue)...it's a mind thing o_O

All-in-all, I think I'll be comfortable...

Practice makes perfect. Great way to get in saddle shape. Good luck.

If you have some trees in your yard, maybe you need to trim some branches away from your roof. I find that this gives me a perfect excuse to practice my tree climbing, and test different friction hitches in actual climbs. Added benefit if you live with other people is you have someone handy to help if you drop something or get hurt.

I practice climbing and shooting in my yard. I try to make sure the wife is around in case I have a problem in the saddle. ( as if she could help me).
If no one is around I have a cell phone for 911 LOL. I have to practice shooting from a stand or I'm not worth a darn. I have a few blocks to shoot at so it's always nice if someone can move them around at different distances, that way I will take a dozen arrows up in my stand for practice. If I don't practice from from my saddle a lot I am not worth crap. I shot my first buck last season from a saddle and it took a lot of practice. I hope I can do it again this season.

I've found that I shoot way better from a sitting position than a leaning one. The weak side shot should especially be practiced, even just the movements if not the shot.

I practiced several times my first year making the transition. I'm making several adjustments to one of my set ups this year, so I'll be out in one of my trees giving it a couple of tests. Been getting things ready now for a couple weeks. Fun stuff!

What rope are you using?

Don't fall into the rut of practicing on the same tree all the time. If you do, you may be in for a big surprise opening day when you have to climb a "different" tree.
I've got a bunch of row-planted red pines on my property, so I designated a 60-yd row as my archery range. I'm toying with the idea of sticking some bolts to climb, and for an ROS, to shoot from, so I don't rash up the bark on it too badly. But I've got a bunch of other trees to practice climbing on (and hunt from), and some old targets to lay out for off-range target practice.

I dont think I would drill and bolt a pine tree. Cut 'em down and replace with oaks might be an idea though.

Are we talking about practice? Not the game but practice…???

Not 100% sure but it's rated safety rope I used as a tether for my safety harness in my tree stands.
I use some of that for tethers but I'm in the process of rotating it out. Singling up on climbing-spec ropes, instead of the bare minimum Muddy's legal team lets them sell.
