One of the key differences between WE steps and Primals is the location of the crossbar. It is lower on the v section of the step on a Primal compared to a WE step. If you are trying to build an inexpensive platform you can fit a 3/4" plywood board between the crossbar and the standoffs on a Primal, but not on a WE step.

Related to that, the buckle on the Primal, while a bit clunky compared to WE ropes helps get the plywood platform tight enough to put extreme leverage on without it pulling away from the tree.

I get it. I bought a linemans and tether from wild edge to support small business (and paid $20 shipping). Could've had 4 more steps for that. Lol.

I’ll overpay for .22 ammo at my local gun shop but I’m not paying $20 to ship anything. I don’t care how small the business is.

I paid $42 to my door, 3 years ago. No issues with them. I bought them as a reasonable cost, climbing method and they are still as good as when new! They will bend if not properly cammed but so will the WE steps. Not sure where you come up with the buckle being crap? If it can hold tight to the tree when a plywood insert is cammed over in it, that certainly doesn’t constitute crap.

I guess I don’t see your point
Honestly I misread the price, thought it was 21 per step on Amazon, now I see that's for a 4-pack, my mistake.
Like all things on Amazon, I go right to the reviews, if 4/5 people say the buckle is a flaw, I tend to believe it, but also can understand if people aren't using it correctly.
Glad its working out, the plywood platform does look like a nice way to hunt.

Yeah. I feel dumb. I don't even like the ropes. They're bulky, like everyone said. I think I'm gonna make a Dano order soon. Lol...

At least this gives me two full set-ups (Kite with ropes, sit-drag:rch with ropes) so I can have a loaner...

Funny thing is I bought the Primal steps several years ago, about the time I joined this forum and before I heard about WE. Before I ever used them I found out about WE, so I cut off my buckles and replaced them with WE ropes. I used them for two years like that but, started using spurs and sold my steps. Then I found myself using my sticks more than spurs, so I sold my spurs. I used my sticks all last year but, then I saw @Peterk1234 's post with the WE steps and cam straps, I just bought 12 primal steps again because I want give them a fair shot with the buckles. I have stealth strip buckle covers that should be here tomorrow. I have also been eyeing up some of the spurs that have showed up on the classifieds recently.....

Typing all of that out makes me wonder if I have a problem? :)

I wouldn’t classify it as a problem
