Allow me to set up the layout of the land. A mile stretch of land along the TN river running east to west. To the north is a razor wire fence 6’+. River is to the south. Access is along a path along the fence. At any point you are 3/4 to 1/2 mile from the river. It’s a mix of swamp, hardwood bottoms and small elevation with a couple of draws on the east side which is where I hunt a good bit during the rut. That is where the fence turns north creating a funnel from a piece that opens up into my spot. My younger self could throw a rock into the river from the fence at that point.

Here’s the deal. In years past you couldn’t walk to that spot without tripping over a rub. I’ve seen a herd of 10 doe and bachelor group of forkies during archery. Seen a lone doe (unconfirmed) the past two hunts. There is an antler restriction and I’m the only idiot that walks that far, so I know nobody is killing them all.

Even though I haven’t seen hot sign like years past, I’m still confident the big boys will show up during the rut.

Any thoughts? Move on? My guess is Social distancing or Low testosterone.

put some food out in the middle of winter with a camera on it.

How many years have you been hunting it and how has the vegetation changed during that time?

3-4. Not much change at all. Acorns everywhere. I’ve seen bucks about a month ago. Just no sign like years past. Found one rub but no rub line.

Are you finding buck sign? Any hot scrapes in the area? If there is no sign then sign out and move on

No hot scrapes. One rub. Due to number of does I’ve seen. I’m going to revisit in a few weeks to check since rut is in a month or so. Spend my time elsewhere for now.

ok why don't you create a mock scrape with a liking stick (like Jeff Sturgis does) and monitor the ground around it with a print trap??

Thanks. I’ll give that a try.
