Question on using Distel Hitch

When using the Distel Hitch on a LB or Tether, is there a minimum or maximum length for safety purposes, or just a preference on your setup and style?

I would think personal preference. That's based on the assumption that saddle systems are under tension and only insignificant slack is introduced when adjusting position.

I based my length on comfort of tether height and bridge position. Most times the top of my distel is inches from the girth hitch of the tether.

Not that I know of, but do keep it under tension. Which puts it close to the end of my tether when sitting and further away (shorter tether) when leaning (longer tether).

I found this interesting. This Saturday I will take my 14 year old out for his first shotgun hunt. I have a stand on private ground and will be out there...he will be in the stand with my heater body suit to stay warm and a RCH. I have a tether that I cut and tied into a distel hitch, but the tether itself is about 3-4 feet long once tied into the distel hitch that will be on my lifeline rope that is on the tree. This is so he can zip up the HBS all the way to the top without it being in the way....when he sits with his back to the tree, I plan on having this extra long tether across his shoulder/chest. That way if he does fall asleep or whatever it will hold him. I will be behind him on my platform with my shotgun too just to back him up. So honestly, to answer your question...it is a personal preference.

By length are you asking about the legs?

If so I prefer short legs especially on LB.
Long legs on LB and hitch starts to go on or behind tree as you climb, I don't like that. I want it clear of the tree with no chance to slip due to contact or twisting on my part.
Same on the tether for length. The hitch cord is not as strong as the tether so no real benefit to me in longer hitch cord. It doesn't change where your hitchi g one way or the other unless you run a low hitch with a long cord only to find it's too long.
I like a high hitch myself.
