Quick link question

I'd typically girth hitch my tether around the tree but I'm switching to rapelling this year and I'm using a quick link instead. With that method it seems like you need to have constant tension on the tether or the link will fall. I've seen some videos where guys use small clips on their tether right at the quick link to keep it from falling while climbing up the tree. Does anyone else use these? If so, where can I buy one? If not, does anyone else use just a quick link? I'm new to this method of climbing and I think that would help me have more faith in the quick link.

Ohm tether locker, chip clip, nite eyes gear tie, castration band. Take you pick! However I assume your talking about the ohm tether locker. They are about 10$ and work great.
i have tried several different things but the ohm works the best for me.

Using 9mm rope, Kong delta link, and the Ohm it just doesn’t seem to stay on the rope well. I’m switching to using a gear tie and that seems to work fine.

Do you have to keep playing with the gear tie to keep it tight enough around your rope or does it stay put?

Also you can look up a celtic stopper knot on youtube. Slides up and down easily for adjustment on the rappel rope but is tight enough to hold link in place. Has worked well for me.

Seems to stay put, haven’t sat with it for a long time yet, just practice ascents.

I use a 1/2" quick link for my 2TC climbing method, but I have constant tension on the tethers to keep them from slipping/dropping, while I'm climbing. The typical 1/2" quick link, purchased at Menards or Lowes, is rated at 3300 lbs. Once I'm at hunting height, I use a gear tie to hold it in place and it works great.
I've wrapped most of the quick links with camo tape, to cut down on the glare, since this photo. :)
Also, I use a scaffold knot on the quick links. The more tension you put on the scaffold knot, the tighter it gets.

how do you retrieve the carabiner after rappelling down?
I use 30' of throw ball line attached to the carabiner to pull everything down.
That's the inresting part about the "knot, hitch" it releases fairly easily, it does not lock up tightly at all.

This just screams side load to me.
Create the "knot, hitch" yourself and you will notice how easy it is to move the carabiner when it is captured.
I think because of the amount of rope in the "knot, hitch" it is creating alot of friction between itself, and reducing the amount of shear load on the carabiner.
I can almost guarantee you will not see carabiner failure, the rope will probably fail first.
