Quick link question

I'd typically girth hitch my tether around the tree but I'm switching to rapelling this year and I'm using a quick link instead. With that method it seems like you need to have constant tension on the tether or the link will fall. I've seen some videos where guys use small clips on their tether right at the quick link to keep it from falling while climbing up the tree. Does anyone else use these? If so, where can I buy one? If not, does anyone else use just a quick link? I'm new to this method of climbing and I think that would help me have more faith in the quick link.

I take some accessory cord and do a fishermen's knot around the line and leave some tag end and then slide it up to the quick link.

Recent JRB video shows how to tie a highwayman's hitch around the link and rope to keep it in place and allow for a easier pulldown.
