Its going to be raining mostly likely here in PA for open day of rifle on Monday. So what is the best way to stay dry in the saddle? Tree Umbrella?? Poncho?? What do you guys use? How do you keep the rain from running down the bridge?

Thanks

Tim

Easiest is a poncho for donning in the tree. If you have a rain suit and can climb with it that would be better.

Used the tree umbrella on my Iowa hunt 2 times.. worked fine. You can really tuck up under neath it in the saddle.

Rivers west pioneer rain suit is awesome. I used to have one of those umbrellas....couldn't stand to hear the rain pounding it. Lol

You should be able to get an umbrella snugged up tight enough against the tree to keep the water out, but if you tie a piece of string around your tether above your bridge connection the rain will hit the string and run down it instead.

Where in PA? I'm also looking at about that same forecast for the rifle opener. I'm up north of Scranton.

I got a cheap tree umbrella this year because I was tired of getting wet and not being able to hunt when its raining. The first time I used it I got soaked lol, I have a video of the rain running right through it not sure if I didnt have it setup right or what, it was heavy rain. Next rain hunt it worked fine in light rain or better setup. I just hit it with some scotch guard hoping that helps.

I also hate the sound and just ordered a Rivers West jacket and pants. Can't wait to try them out!

You mean like this. Killed two deer sitting under this regular umbrella last week. I once had a tree umbrella and gave it to another hunter and never replaced it. Tried to buy another last week but apparently continuous rain during the rut caused everywhere to be out of stock. Never used the tree umbrella with a saddle. This Walmart special sold near the women’s purses worked fine. I used 550 cord and a cam jam to attach the top. It did require the addition of a small twig to keep the handle pushed away from the tree. The only downside to the umbrella on the tree was it doesn’t cover gear you attach to the tree with exception of a small spot between you and the tree. If you try to hang something in that small spot and don’t get complete coverage you actually get it wetter because of water running off the umbrella. On the positive note I was able to sit in the saddle for two days without getting wet or wearing a rain coat.

Central Pa. Williamsport area. Ran into the same issue out every where, now lean toward a pop up blind.

Well good luck, I brought my blind as well just in case, I'm still not sure where I'm gonna sit, tracks all over in the snow, but we've done a little atvn so I'm worried they will be all out of sorts lol. I did get my Rivers West gear today so I'm kinda pumped to stay dry!

Had a 4pt come down and eat fruit off of a tree during breakfast and 4 on the way home tonight just off the road, probably wont see anything on the opener lol
