40ft of any static or dynamic single rope you like. The rope will be dependent on the rappel device you use. Figure 8, safegard, ATC, munter Etc. Do you care about bulk? if so, try 8-9mm. Are you using a device with size restrictions? if so, 9-10mm would be better. Do you want to be able to get a good grip on the rope, maybe get something with more girth like predator or phantom. Do you think you’ll be hard on the rope and expose it wet environment, maybe get a caving or dry treated rope. You’d be hard pressed to throw a rock and hit a rope that is meant for climbing that you couldn’t rappel on. If you want to just buy what everyone else is using go to doublestep.com. HTP, oplux, rescue tech, ultra tech, canyon c-IV to name a few.
You got a budget or want the most expensive? You want a minimalist set up or a mechanical device?appreciate the reply and help
Guess I’ll have to look at different options. New to all of this and just gathering information
Cheap and tried and true will be a figure 8 or an ATC and some cord to use as a autoblock (third hand, catches rope if your hand slips).

Figure 8 Plate
