Rappel Rope Length

My current rappelling rope is roughly 35’ from tied eye to the end. Normally I don’t need that much and usually have about 10’ laying on the ground when I rappel. But on my last hunt, in order to have some cover, I was 4 one-stick moves up the tree and when i came down I only had approximately 5’ laying on the ground. Because of this occasional need, I’ll keep the extra 5’. Bear in mind that I normally only hunt about 18-20’ up.

Mine is 40' because of the heights I have to hunt in some areas. It's not uncommon to find the end of my rope dangling a foot above the ground when I get down. I get in alot of trees that are telephone pole straight and don't have any limbs for the first 20'. I also hunt trails running along steep hillsides so I need height to keep me out of view. If you never need to climb high, then carry just enough rope for your style of hunting.

Here's a tree I hunt where my rope doesn't reach the ground. If you zoom in, you can see my bow hanging in the tree. My ros is about 32' high, setup just above the branch that comes out at a right angle.

Good Afternoon,
I currently have two rappel rope setups. I hav done that is 40ft and the other is 35ft I believe. I’m interested in know how much rope some of you carry? When I hunt I’m normally around 15ft to 17ft. I’ve been thinking about cutting the 40ft rope down to around 25 to 30ft. Has anyone done this?
33' seems to be the magic number for me here in the north east. I buy my rope in bulk and cut it

Also, it's really hard to get a true measurement of your height. I use a Nikon Forrestry Pro 2. Girth hitching the tree usually takes 6' or more of rope length

I hunt with 45' because the guy I bought it from had 45' to sell, and I haven't cut a tether off of it yet. Maybe I will at some point but don't need to yet. If it were about 12' shorter it would fit in a water bottle pouch pretty easily.
