Any of the High-Speed/Low-Drag types on here able to comment on using a leg bag for a rappell rope, instead of tossing it down the tree before you ascend?

I like the idea of keeping my rope protected from the elements while I'm in the tree, and only paying out what I need as I descend. I've seen some Youtube videos on it and it seems thay some canyoneers use this technique at times, as well as Air Assault, SWAT, and firefighters.

In your experience, what are the advantages and disadvantages? Anything to watch out for?

Thanks in advance.

I don’t keep my rope in a “leg bag”, however I do store it in an Amazon special molle dump pouch. The type with the elastic drawstring at the top. While climbing an while at hunting height, the drawstring stays pulled tight to keep the rope held in place. When coming down I loosen the drawstring top completely allowing rope to freely exit the pouch, I might mention that my backup hitch is within 6-8 inches of the pouch so that allows for a smooth trip for the rope, out of the bag, thru the hitch, thru the figure 8. Hope this helps

@Red Beard has your solution. Get a water bottle pouch from EWO and be done with it. Works awesome. I have mine attached to my pack. I think @always89y has a roll pouch that would work too.
