Whats the trick to rappelling from leaning tree? Or do do guys just go for the straight ones? I’m trying it for first time this season and the other night didn’t go as planned. Lol. Would love to see a vid of guys doing it on a leaner

Unless you have to be next to the trunk on the way down to retrieve your climbing method or other gear you may have attached you can just hang and let yourself down. You don't need your feet on the tree it just looks cool. If you need to be close to the tree on the way down use a linesman.

Thanks. That’s basically what I did the other night. Was kinda weird and a little pucker factor. Lol

I’ve learned to just go with gravity. Go to the low side of the tree and come down that way, feet on the tree or not, it doesn’t matter. You definitely will not win against gravity.

Same premise if climbing a rope. Ideally you’re close to the trunk to help stabilize you but there have been time I’ve been 5’+ away from the trunk climbing in “free space”. Definitely gives a different perspective on things.

A backband makes rappelling more comfortable, especially on leaning trees.
