Rappelling question.

Yea muddy line isn’t great but have you tried the ropes that come with the hawk set
They are literally nylon dock ropes with zero abrasion resistance. I rate the muddy about 2.5/10 but that’s because the hawk ropes were soooooo bad lol
With the quality of their other gear and their level of customer service excellence, I cant hardly imagine that.

This was my try out and I only did it once. I went home and ordered Canyon elite and a mammut smart 2.0 and carabiner. I score the muddy rope a 0/10.
You gonna love that elite! My first rappel run(s) were done going backwards down a flight of basement stairs……..you are really gonna love rappelling!

@Weldabeast ,how can you break the prussik after putting weight on it? That knot does not like loosening after being loaded.
Yes sir I can break it loose....a prusik can bind up and there are better friction hitches out there....a tender above the back up friction hitch works very well if it's being stubborn.

My personal setup is rescuetec mainline, 6mm friction hitch tied in the knut configuration. Oversized biner and tender above and below the hitch.

When u using the MM along with the hitch u can really have good control of which hitch grabs first so when I am descending and need to stop I'll hold on tight with the feed hand until the MM starts grabbing first and then allow the back up hitch to grab so the 2 hitches work together and split the load. If u allow the upper hitch to bite hard then allow the munter to play out it's slack loading the upper hitch hard it can/could be difficult to break but u can yank on that upper tender and it'll break free... Worst comes to worst make a foot loop in ur mainline or use ur linesman rope and relieve pressure off the hitch

When I very first started rappelling I was using only a MM and just wrapping my the rope around my leg as a brake for hands free.... Sketchy to some I'm sure. Takes a little fine tuning on hitch cord lengths and which hitches work the best with whatever flavor of rope to hitch combinations u are using

Hard to show in a pic or explain correctly in text......u see the gap here....when u slowly start weighting the upper hitch the legs of the hitch start applying pressure to the MM from the side and that friction right there is acting kind like a clutch letting u weight either the hitch or MM more or less depending on how u let the pressure be appliedScreenshot_20230315-083217~3.pngScreenshot_20230315-083222~3.png

I've stopped using Prussics for that reason. That, and because I had issues getting them to grab reliably. Won't grab, won't let go... I need a different friction hitch. That said, there was a pictorial or Youtube video on using these premade loops to make a Distel or Schwabisch... form the hitch on your fingers, then feed the end of the main line through. I couldn't get it to work for me - the loop kept twisting up and kinking - but I wasn't in a mood to be patient enough to see the experiment through.

Not sure how he breaks a prussic but what worked for me before I moved away from them was to open it with the loop that captures the loop you are attached too and then just flex it in my hand a couple times. I fully loaded them coming down with an ATC and could release them with one hand once I figured that out.
