Hello everyone,
This is my second post. I went back and did some research after my first. I seem to have discovered I wanted to try saddle hunting a month or two too late to get one of the popular saddles in with enough time to practice before my season opener in Oct. So my solution its as follows; I want to get the following gear (See Phase I List) so that I can get at least hooked up at ground level and start practicing within the next week. At the time of writing this all the DIY components for climbing rope were backordered. I will also order some upgrades/alternatives once I practice a little at the end of August (See Phase II list). I am starting to lose my head in all this and I believe I am overthinking it, so please let me know. Is this a dumb idea? or are these initial components enough to start practicing and then the phase II stuff will make things safer / more suited to what I want to do? Any advice is appreciated. For what its worth, I'm a larger guy 6ft 2" and 245-250lbs.
Side note: I want to try one sticking & will be attempting that with a generic set of double steps I have now until I buy either a set of muddy pro sticks or a single helium stick from Midway)
PHASE I:
Saddle: Treehopper Recon (Advice on web bridge vs amsteel? Leaning towards webbing for now ant the making a utili bridge out fo Oplux later)
Platform: Treesuite Platform
Lineman: Muddy Safe line (Cut down for lineman and tether on sale for $19.99)
Carabiners For Linemen: Salvage from web style lineman I have now
Tether: Muddy Safe line (Cut down for lineman and tether on sale for $19.99)
Tether Carabiner: Salvage from an old harness or Black Diamond Rock Lock
Does anyone know what cord/size cord to use to make a distel hitch on the Muddy Line?
PHASE II: (possible upgrades / modifications)
DIY Tether #1: Oplux8mm w/ 6mm Trc distil hitch & aider (thoughts on 3d printed options? I have a 3d printer)
or
DIY Tether #2: Sterling HTP Static 10mm w/ 7mm Sterling Acc. Cord Distel Hitch & Aider (thoughts on 3d printed options? I have a 3d printer)
Tether Caribiner: Mad Rock Hulk HMS
UtiliBridge: Oplux8mm w/ 6mm Trc prusik knot
Tree Sticks: Muddy Pro set or Hawk Helium Singlestick
Climbing Aider: 1" tubular webbing
Gear Storage: Gear Daisy Chain
Hero Clip
Diy 3d printed Bow holder(Got some ideas)
Upgrade Lineman Carabiners: OPEN FOR SUGGESTIONS
Rappelling Setup: Need to research more
Platform upgrade: Possibly add squirrel steps to strap on treesuite or scout OOAL or Higher-end folding platform like predator or OOAL Podium
I just checked and all of the DIY rope supplies are now available from EWO, anyone with experience on shipping times to PA? May just skip the Muddy and go with the DIY lines from the get-go.
Any Changes y'all would make or anyone have bad experiences with the equipment listed?
Thanks in advance.
