Last year I wounded 2 deer (one liver shot i didnt give enough time and it got up and ran, the other the rain and falling leaves washed out the trail) and never recovered them, I was hurt, but know that's something a lot of people go through in their hunting career. "Punched" my tags on them because I hate to wound and not recover an animal, and that made me feel slightly better about not finding them.
practiced and shot, and practiced and shot all winter (when i could), spring and summer, and felt confident going into the new hunting season.
Tonight i was hanging in one of my favorite spots, about 20 minutes to hunts end, and this spike buck came up on me at about 20, tbh i didnt even see the spikes, i thought it was a decent sized doe. slid around from the back side of the tree, drew and loosed on him. went and found my arrow, then went back to the vehicle to stash my stuff and get a better light. came back and followed a good blood trail to find him within about 5 minutes. went maybe 40yds.
