Dope........
Set up that afternoon. The tree that I needed to be in was a nice sized oak and it had a bunch of dead branches on the way up. I had picked it out when I was there on Sunday but I stood there looking around at my other options for a solid 5 minutes trying to see if I could talk myself into climbing an easier one. Nothing would have put me in as good a spot to cover both trails that I wanted to as this one so up I went. It didn't end up being that bad and I just went slow and stayed quiet. Also I don't use a platform, always a ROS .@redsquirrel another question, did you set everything up that afternoon when you went in or was it a pre-set location with the tree already prepared with your WE Stepps and platform pre hung?
Good thing I bought a boat last year so I'll be able to keep myself busy striper fishing for October. I took up duck hunting the past couple years so I can do that for a couple saturday mornings too. Things will come back in hot and heavy for me around halloween. I get my second bow tag that weekend and 4 days of a muzzeloader tag the following week. I'm also going to take my daughter out in a tree a bit since she's been showing more interest. I have no problem keeping myself busyNice buck.
It’s still September….
Thanks, I only ask because I’ve been kicking myself for not putting a preset in on a very narrow travel corridor on public next to he private I hunt where I have frequent pics of a few nice bucks coming from their bedding on private, crossing a paved two lane but rural highway, and then up through a draw and onto the private I hunt. I want to get as close to that road as possible to catch them daylighting and am going to try it for my first evening hunt of the season this year (tomorrow) and you getting in there and getting it done gives me renewed optimism to get in as early as I can and get set up Sunday afternoon. What was your plan to get out if you didn’t see anything? I’m going to have to go out and completely opposite and make a long loop to get back to my vehicle so I don’t bugger everything up on the ag fields and apples they’re hitting if nothing shows that first sit.Set up that afternoon. I'm a big fan of presets. I am considering setting this tree up as a preset for future years... we'll see. My presets are pretty hidden but if you walk up on the tree you still may see it. Once big advantage of going in completely mobile is that there is no sign of me hunting that tree. I didn't weight him. He wasn't the largest bodied one I shot which was close to 200 dressed but he was still a pretty big deer. If I had to guess I'd say somewhere between 15-170 dressed.Nice buck! He's got some cool characteristics and some good mass.
Did you measure him? Do you know how much he weighed?
Again congrats.
Thanks! I'm already going to head out this afternoon to start scouting spots for this time next yearHe’s a hoss! Congrats on that stud of a buck. Looks like you have time to do more scouting before permit bow. Again, congrats!
