Has anyone made a tether out of rope sold at REI? If so, what did you use? I am looking for something I can get quickly in the interim that would be replaced soon enough.

Yeah, I have and am using now. When I get home I'll post what I'm using.

I use the pmi 11 mm as my tether, LB and bridge. 8 mm pmi as my prussik for LB and bridge. I got a manufactured sewn prussik for peace of mind on the teather. It definitely gets the job done. The 11mm is Very rigid, little more difficult to knot than other static ropes, and harder to fit in some pouches because of that. The 8mm seems to work well as a prussik. I use a micro pulley to adjust the prussik on my LB and works great.

All that said I am fine with keeping it and continuing to use it. I am a beginner to saddle hunting this year and think I will use it for the foreseeable future. Right now I think their are better places to spend my money and keep the pmi rope. Maybe in a few years I’ll replace for more light weight and pack able material.

I also spent a couple Mindhunter episodes of coloring the rope with a few sharpies to make it more camoflauge. Not sure if it was worth it or not but so far I’ve never been busted by a deer

Not as a prussik but as the actual tether?

If so how it that? I'd like to get the smallest and lightest ropes possibly that can be used safely.

I use oplux as my tether, bridge and LM belt. I may replace it again with the ultrateck rope as it is stiffer. However for what I'm using it for It is safe and so much lighter. I also have 52' of oplux as my rappel rope. Once at hunting height, I put my rappel rope on the tree and hook up to my bridge...tighten everything down and take off the short tether.

That's 8mm? You use a ropeman on it?

Not there yet with the oplux, but I also like to hook up the rappel line once at height and have it ready to go. I do leave the tether on though, I like the idea of having a backup...

I have used that rope from REI but don't like the white and red colors. I was thinking of dying it but I went with Samson Predator rope from Wesspur.
