I just purchasedsome resc tech from EWO and was wondering if anyone had any experience with the sewn eye that it comes with? Should I trust it for my quick link or just tie a scaffold knot?

is ewo sewing them or farming that out?

if done correctly, it's stronger than a knot, but i'm hesitant like you seem to be, which i guess is because i can tie my own knot and check it

if you use the sewn eye, then one way not to lose your quick link in the tree is to get a ranger band and do a double loop over the quick link and then a double loop with the ranger band over the rope loop....i did that with a figure 8 on a bight with a quick link on the bight

i would doubt they'd ship you an unsafe product, both from the general liability angle and the fact that they're members on here. hit up the chat on their website and you'll likely get answers about where/how the eye is sewn

I’m not doubting them at all they have been a great company to deal with but as someone new to single stick climbing I’m just making sure I’m doing everything I can to be as safe as possible

oh yeah, 100% verify anything you're putting your life on, didn't mean to give you any other impression, you're doing it right

They aren't sewing them themselves. Can't remember the name of the company, but they actually have their info on a tag under the shrink wrap.

Sewed eye looks good. The shrink wrap won't stay in place when using as a tether. Ymmv

If you use your tether a lot nobody's shrink wrap will stay put.

interesting, i would not try to re-shrink wrap with heat near the rope, maybe some camo form tape that you can peel back to inspect the stitches periodically

My tether from Latitude never had that issue with 4 times as much use. I made it my linemans belt when I got the restech tether + Beal jammy.

DanO told me it was fine to take a heat gun to it. I guess this type of rope is relatively heat resistant.

the sheath is extremely heat resistant, the core is not.....dyneema melts very easily, right around boiling point of water.....i'd do this at your own risk, i don't think having nice looking ropes is worth it, personally

another safe and moveable cover up is small diameter by wide ranger bands, they are basically the king of rubber bands

I dont doubt it. They did put the shrink wrap on there originally. There must be some happy medium, not sure how to qualify it though

if you had a heat gun with a temperature control, then you could set it below the point of damage (is that the same as the melting point?)

with some electrical shrink tube, it will shrink just with a hair dryer or hot water, but it is opaque which would be dangerous (can't inspect)
