Hey guys I have a Mathews no cam bow and wanted to get it restrung. I some times carry my bow by the string and right where I hold on to it the string has frayed and after 6 years I don't want the thing popping on me when I out there doing my thing. My local shop where I purchased the bow in saddle brook NJ (my opinion ) has to much on their plate to handle this for me. Is there another reputable shop out there within 70 miles of Weehawken NJ that is proficient at restring bows? Several years back there was a shop on route 23 mountain man or mountain mike. He was very knowledgeable and I felt he was the right person for this project. His shop is gone..

Any help with referral would sure be welcoming.

Thank Marcello

First, I’d find a different bow shop permanently. If you bought a bow from them and then they straight up refused to service it because they’re too busy, that would lose my business forever. If you pay real close attention to what you’re ordering you can easily order strings and cables for that bow yourself and have any bowshop stick them on in 15 minutes for about $20. Very likely there is someone in your area building strings out of their garage and if you find them most of them do just as good as the big companies. Good luck to you!

You're starting to push pretty close to the season!

Cheyenne mountain outfitters in Bordentown will get you squared away if you don't find anything closer. It's probably right at 70 miles from you. Do you have the strings already? If so, you'd probably be in and out if you go early on a weekday. If not you may have to leave it with them for a few days while they make the strings. I would go asap though. They get pretty busy this time of year

I work at Simon Peter Sport Co., in Newton NJ. I know for a fact (September opener here), that we're close to three weeks out already if we need to order strings and cables/setup/assemble/time/tune.

Are you guys busier than normal for this time of year?

I would say so, we're literally running out of storage room for the work we are taking in. However, manufacturer delays due to the initial Covid shutdown are not helping us. GAS and Winner's Choice have stupid long lead times. Zebra is still reasonable, and Vaportrail is pretty good yet.

We currently don't build strings, though. We don't have enough time haha.

Haha wow. Yeah I figured all the shops would be swamped. I have a good buddy that works at Bob's little sport shop in Glassboro and they're in a similar situation.

I'm pretty much in the city and doubt ill find anyone building strings in the garage here. I did a search for both string suppliers and shops and came up with several shops. However, a referral is a time saver. I know it is late in the season but due to the Covid our business has really consumed me and my time. Thanks and Stay Safe.

Thanks, I appreciate the referral. I have a place in Sussex and Newton is only across the valley. I might come to check you out this week.

Bummer. Sounds like you’re in for a drive then. Only other option would be to get you some strings and cables off eBay seller, get a bow master and press and change them yourself.

Just FYI I ordered some Catfish Custom strings recently and it was delivered 10 days later.

That ain’t bad. I figured they’d be backed way up by now. Local guy I use isn’t taking anymore orders until October.
