Retrofitting brass inserts

Long story short, I have Easton 6 mm bloodline arrows. Easton 6 mm brass inserts have been sold out everywhere I look. I thought I found a set on eBay to only be sent 5mm brass inserts.
Is it possible to make a 5mm brass insert work in a 6 mm arrow? I was thinking of wrapping thread around the insert to make it more snug and uniform.

Thanks in advance

I have no clue. I just got my first compound bow a few weeks ago and started caring about this stuff. Before with a crossbow I would just throw whatever broad head on, make sure it’s sighted in, and call it good.

I've got some gold tip brass inserts or some ethics archery inserts i would trade you if we decide they'll fit.

appreciate that offer!! I will probably try to install one of these inserts this weekend. if it doesn't work i'll let you know. I also cant figure out the inside dimension of these arrows. everywhere i look, it just says 6mm. Maybe i'll see if i can get a decent caliper reading this weekend as well.

.231 is in the inside diameter. I wouldn't attempt your idea unless you want to destroy an arrow shaft. That insert will just get driven back inside splitting the end of the shaft with the back of the field tip. I have a ton of 6mm aluminum inserts if you want them but all my brass ones are spoken for.

interesting. that makes sense... i have aluminum ones now but i wanted to increase my FOC a bit. w/ 125 grain tips, i am only at like 12.3%. Maybe i should just buy some new arrows. The arrows i ended up with was basically a panic buy when i was getting my new bow setup. after figuring out which bow i wanted and work with the archery shop on release, stabilizer, sight, peep, kissing button etc. when we got to arrows i just got whatever i saw first and the guy said would work. Had blood in the title said figured it would have to work.

What kind of broadheads do you shoot? Also you can easily turn aluminum inserts into weighted inserts if they’re threaded all the way through

What spine/length arrows are you using?
I have 6 newer and 1 older Bloodline 330 spine at 28". They all have the brass 75gn inserts already installed with Cool Flex HotMelt so they can be removed easily. They're all yours if you want them...just cover the shipping. Or come pick them up since we're practically neighbors.

unfortunately i think a 28" will be to short for my bow. Mine are 30.5" 330 bloodlines.
to bad, i'm actually thinking about coming up to the maumee and doing some smallie/gar fishing in early august.

If it were me I'd get the field point test pack from whichever manufacturer u choose and and shoot ur current arrows till u find the 1 then get broadhead as close to the weight as possible .....if u put the 5mm insert into a 6mm arrow u will be sad

aren't all those heavy broadheads very expensive though? When i shoot a deer with a cross bow, i never once recovered my arrow. I had pass throughs 90% of the time but never found those tiny bolts. unless i'm unaware that using a compound is that much different. i am basically trying to do this as cost efficient as possible in planning on losing most of my arrows after i shoot a deer or the annoying squirrel that pisses me off.

You will find your arrows. I always bought cheap bolts cuz i would lose them so often. N I used aluminum so if I found it, it was usually bent to ****. You can get 150 gn magnus for pretty cheap or get clearance heavys off of grizzly stick if you have time and patience to sharpen them. Or vpa's. Use a lighted nock. The nocks on a bolt are a PIA to switch out. Not so on an arrow. You wil find 95% of your arrows. If your trying to get up in foc, you are gonna end up with a pricey arrow once you get into it. I LOVE single bevel heads. Get a test kit like weldabeast said. Bows are touchy compared to xbows n you gotta tune things for good arrow flight

Being that it’s still covid and Ohio is starting to get strict again. I have plentyyy of time on my hands right now. My fly tying boxes are just about full. Might as well start sharpening some broadheads after work. Guess I’ll try the test kits along with finding a deal on a grizzly stik clearance.

Thanks everybody for the help!

My hunting buddy is going to buy some new arrows this weekend. If he doesn’t get 5 mm arrows, hunter260 I’ll just send these brass inserts over to you if you’d still want them

If u go the grizzlystik clearance route, I hope you have some sharpening skills. I would almost recommend just getting the overkill ones. It takes a looooong time to get the edge right on the clearance ones.
