Ring of steps help!

You need to read the whole tread. You only use the ratchet from this. Cut the straps and hooks off.

I guess what I am saying is that I would rather buy it the way I wanted it, instead of cutting the strap off and changing out the connection piece. I have found that finding the connection that I want, is harder to find than the ratchet as they are everywhere but most have those "S" hooks that are great for hauling stuff, not so much to wrap around a tree.

If you already have a ring of steps with the strap, all you do is take the straps off of the ratchet, run the ring of steps strap through the ratchet, and hook the flat hook of the strap on the other end of the ratchet. There’s nothing to figure out or get.

Just go on Amazon. It's called an endless ratchet strap.

This exactly... Then you don't have to mess with feeding the webbing of that endless strap through the buckle in the dark...and risk dropping everything off the strap in the process!

The strap he has is a 1 inch strap that came on the ameristeps. Putting a 1 in strap through a larger ratchet is a pain in the rear end in my opinion. That may not bother you, it would me. We can go back and forth all day. You can do it your way I never said you can not. I just would not settle for that set up. Have a wonderful day in the land of the cajun.

You can use any old 1" ratchet, I used a racket of that had a broken strap and the original strap that the ameri-steps came on. The hook just hooks on the flat spot instead of where the hook was sewn on (it won't fit there without grinding it down). Put an over hand in your webbing if your worried about anything sliding off. I have used these like this for many years. When packing them up slide the ratchet to the steps and ratchet it down and the steps tighten up into a spiral clump which is about as compact as they get, they as won't knock each other without effort so they will travel quietly.

Go to shipperssupplies.com
They have lots of options for straps. They custom make straps to your order...length, color, ratchets, different hook styles or endless...you want it, they'll make it. They have stainless ratchets for $5 extra. Their 1" webbing is top quality. With junk straps, I could never get my ROS as tight as I can with shippers supplies' strap. The thin webbing on most chinese ratchet straps does not lock the ROS tight on the tree. The steps will slide or sag.
They have a bunch of different colors of webbing, and several styles of hooks.
I got straps for ROS for about $16, if I remember right...stainless ratchet. Not the lightest, but they function much better than junk straps from the hardware store.
