Has anyone tried the new Treehopper strap on steps? I want to try to hunt from a ring of steps this next season and I am trying to decide on which steps to purchase. I am leaning toward squirrel steps or the treehopper steps. I know the squirrel steps have high reviews, just curious about the treehopper steps.

I've got a set of 5 on a strap. I haven't spent much time hunting with them yet but they seem comfortable to me. Seems like people really like the stackability of the squirrel steps. I have no complaints about the treehopper steps and although they don't stack completely tight, they are fine for me.

I’m also considering a couple/few steps to try next season. Stuck between the squirrel steps and the tree hoppers. Have to admit the tree hopper steps are a little more attractive at $10 each cheaper. I like that the squirrel steps are aluminum though. Not sure which way I should go.

That’s the same decision I am trying to make. Easier on the pocket book, but the squirrel step has been around and I have yet to hear any negatives.

I have hunted with Ameristeps for the past 10 years, I just bought the squirrel steps and they are supposed to arrive tomorrow. The pack ability of the squirrel steps intrigued me, but they are only 3/4” wide. Im thinking that they will either be awesome or uncomfortable.....Roll the dice, chances are you are not done buying.

I just bought 4 tree hopper steps at the GAOS today, adding this to remind myself to post a review after I test them out. I used SS on an OCB last season.

Yeah I know. Well I just bit the bullet and ordered 2 of the tree hopper steps tonight. Will try them out and see how they are. Figured not a big deal to take a chance at less than $36. If I really like them then I might consider the squirrel steps later. One thing that interested me about the tree hopper steps was the teeth on the step. Looks very aggressive and hopefully grips the boot well.

I started with ameristeps. Worked great. Went to the squirrel steps. Love the packability. They do move a little more with side pressure than the ameristeps but it’s not an issue for me. I much rather the benefit of packability.
I use 5 mostly. I pack them 3 side by side and 2 side by side. Then put the backs of the 3 to the backs of the 2 and wrap the strap around them. The tail end of my strap I keep an over hand knot in it with a loop of bungee through it. After it’s wrapped up, I pull the bungee loop around the steps. It locks them together in the shape of a flat “T”. Fits in my backpack outer pouch. I’ll have to take a pic. I’m sure that doesn’t make sense.

I would like to see a picture. Thanks

I'm stealing that bungee idea for my Ameristeps. Fourteen years and now you tell me!

I carry 5 Ameristeps on their strap W/ the ends tied together to form a sling for over my neck. No noise and easy to grab once at height.

That’s how I use to carry them. Now I just leave them in my pack. After I attach my final stick, I sling my backpack around to my front and get them out of the outer pocket, sling backpack back on my back and install the ROS. Climb onto them, hang backpack, hang tether, hook into tether, take off linemans belt, daisy chain it, hang it from my pack, then pull up bow.

I went from ameristeps to SS for my ros. Went from barely being able to fit the ros in a dano pouch to being able to fit the ros and both my ropes into one pouch. If a compact system is important to you definitely go with SS.

I’ve only ever used squirrel steps. They pack nice and ive been happy with my experience so far!
