Looking into a rock climbing harness for a sit drag style saddle. I plan on doing it like @bowhunter15 did it in his video on a DIY saddle. I am looking into the Mammut Ophir Slide 3 but was wondering if anybody had other suggestions or input. In addition, should I just use the sit drag loops for my lineman’s belt or put my own on there or are there rock climbing harnesses with loops that can be used for a lineman’s belt. Anything helps! Thanks.

Metolious safe techs are only harnesses I know of that the gear loops (every component) are rated for a fall. Can you use the sit drag ears for linesman? I do....but its probably slightly more safe than using the belt loops of your pants in a fall

my problem with the sitdrag and how we use it, is the single stitch in the webbing. The diyed sitdrags with box/bar stitches (and probably better rated materials) are much safer

Do you know of a good arborist harness?

I got mine off of amazon. XYGood arborist harness. That should get you to it. I like it. It’s a bit heavier then the ultra light weight rock harnesses that a lot of the guys use however that weight is because of some padding, the linesman loops, and mole loops for attaching stuff while climbing. No modifications needed. I think I bought mine for $40. I wear it into the woods and have never had any issue with the weight or even known it was there really. Some of my hikes are over a mile in bluff country.

Do you use a sit drag with it or just the arborist harness? I appreciate it.

Also what’s the fit like on it? It doesn’t have any info on sizes I’m about 6 foot and 190. I think I’m gonna get it but wanna check the sizing first

The sizing is fully adjustable. You shouldn’t have a problem fitting it to yourself. I don’t use a sit drag anymore. I either use a preacher seat for all day sits or a fleece saddle for afternoon and morning sits.

What is a preachers seat and what is a fleece saddle? I’m new to this sorry if it’s a dumb question

Preacher seat is essentially a plywood swing with a stand off so that you can sit without knees on the tree and a fleece saddle is a rectangle of fleeece with a bridge tied to it. Search for either on this forum and you will find directions on making them.

That’s my preacher seat. I don’t have a pic of the fleece.

I'm seeing conflicting stuff on the Metolious Safe Techs. Seems like I read on here that they're not rated for a fall and that the company doesn't make that claim. I may call them and confirm that. I had looked at these for a while because I thought they were rated too.

Yeah backcountry has this listed https://www.backcountry.com/metolius-safe-tech-deluxe-harness-mens-met0046 "Every component, including leg risers, the gear, haul, and belay loops are engineered to withstand a load of at least 2250 lbf (10kN)—that's FULL strength and typically the max impact force rating of a modern climbing rope."

Metolious states " Wherever possible, each component is engineered to withstand a load of 1000 lbf (4.5 kN)"
......but that statement includes all harnesses in their safe-tech line (8), which includes a minimalist harnesses.

So yeah, call and ask about the specific model youre interested in, before you buy one....but be sure to explain its only a couple feet of fall against a tree on a linemans belt ( and hope the call center person understands what youre talking about)

That's an incredible price.

I've been using my arborist saddle due to budget constraints. It is heavy, noisy & bulky to pack in but I can spend all day in it.

I will be sewing my own saddle inclusive of a linemans belt & leg loops this winter to cut down weight

** I do not like hanging by just the bridge/ one point of contact. I use my saddles bridge + another bridge connected at a different point on the saddle.
