Rope for DRT

Hey Guys,

I want to try DRT and have some questions about appropriate rope. The NY saddle hunter guys talked about using Predator but that doesn’t seem to be available for purchase. I grabbed a cutoff section of HTP off RW rope for cheap but the Blake’s hitch doesn’t seem to hold well. I did some reading on arborist sites and it seems like it is to stiff of a rope and the bend radius limits strength of the Blake’s. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Poison ivy (yale i think?) Is good for drt. Sorta camo although the green is a little bright. It is a supple rope, 11.7mm makes for good hand hold while climbing but heavier.

Why can’t you buy predator rope? I just got some 2 weeks ago.

I bought 75’ from Wespur for $.85/ft.

You probably got some of the last of it. Showing temporarily unavailable on the site, but it also says expecting late september after you add it to the cart. Maybe it will show in stock next week if your lucky.

you can also read the descriptions of the ropes on wesspur and it will tell you if its good for certain methods of climbing.

This is the stuff I'm wondering about

If just for DRT would probably be fine. If your wanting to repurpose it’s a little thick for mechanical devices such as ropemans or ATCs
Which have a 11mm max working rope diameter.
1/2” is closer to 13mm 7/16 is 11mm

If you don't mind the color, look into Yale Blaze. If you pull it up and stow it the color shouldn't be an issue.

Kernmaster isn't what you're looking for, at least not what would be considered user friendly. Lines that work well for DdRT aren't static, they're more of a what you can think of as semi-static design. They tend to be soft and supple feeling compared to static ropes. While it doesn't have a very desirable color for hunting, the lightest rope I used while doing tree work was "The Fly". Very nice for DdRT and 11mm as I recall. Although if you really want to use it for hunting, holding out for Predator is probably the way to go.

The fly is a great rope, i have 2 from when i did tree work on the side. Over the 20 or so different ropes i played with while working as an arborist it was my favorite and it isn't that expensive per foot either compared to some.
