Rope Mod for One Sticking?

Does anyone use a rope mod to one stick? If so, what’s your technique for securing it? Seems like passing it behind and underneath the attached end would be difficult to undo during a transition, but I haven’t come up with any other way that holds as well.

I’m new to saddle hunting and I’ll buy a cam cleat if I absolutely have to, but I’m getting sick of all the overpriced fidgety doohickeys, and I’d rather find a simple solution. Plus, I hope to transition into two tether climbing before the season starts anyway. I’ve just found the one stick to be more stable and quicker to climb while I practice with my saddle, ring of steps, and rappel.

FYI, I’ve been using the Hawk Helium Mini with stock versa button and versa strap. It’s fine but can be difficult to find the right slot and get it attached when holding up high. I thought maybe the rope mod might make that easier, but I haven’t been able to find many folks who are doing it that way, or at least that show how their securing while doing it that way.
 
I did it before I discovered a cam cleat a years ago.

I just treated it just like a cam cleat in terms of how I moved the stick and rope up the tree but I'd just run it behind the button and working end like normal and then tie a half hitch that I could get undone by pulling the tag end through, so the bight of the half hitch had another bight looped into it so I could untie it like a shoe lace.
 
Yeah, I was playing with a half hitch at ground level but couldn’t get anything to hold well without going behind the button.

I haven’t messed with it at height yet, but my assumption was that, if I went behind the button, in order to get it loose I’d have to feed it back up through. Was that not the case for you?

If you're using hitch cord and static line instead of Amsteel, you could play with different friction hitches besides the Prussic. I'd be curious to hear what your favorite for this application is.
 
Cam cleats are only about 20 bucks, IMHO, buy a cam cleat and 2 long bolts from lowes, and make gives less fiddle factor when climbing

I made an amsteel daisy chain and have the option to loop over the button or if it doesnt line up I can just tie off like a regular rope mod.
 
Amsteel daisy chain for me. Maneuverability when transitioning is the reason I stick with it.

I wish I was a headlight on a north-bound train
 
X2 on installing a cam cleat and calling it a day. You can then use bout any line or cord that will fit the cam cleat. I like the amsteel on mine. If using the versa strap you can tilt the stick sideways to get some length trying to find the right loop. I’ve also found it easier in transition if the attachment cord is sloped a bit behind the tree……never had cinching issues either.
