Rope retrieval/bow tow suggestions?

I use a 35’ length of paracord with s biners on each end that I use as a dual function bow tow/rope retrieval. When I drop my bow down on one end I attach the other onto my tether stopper clip before I rappel down and then pull it down from the ground. Having s dual function rope is nice except it’s a giant pits to manage as it’s always tangling and knotting up on me. Just curious what you guys use for your bow tows and rope retrievals.

I am using dyna glide for my pull down rope because it has zero stretch. This is my first year one sticking and I am loving it so far except my rope is a real pain in the ass to get down some times!

There is a way better way than using a separate pull down rope. After you get to hunting height , make your tether into the JRB exploding hitch. Rappel down and explode that hitch off the tree. 40ft of good rope for the tether/rappel and tie a weaker rope like paracord to the pull-down end and leave it on. JRB has a video on an easy way to gather up the rope which works fast.

dynaglide for my pull down as well.
As for pull up rope I use my rappel line. I had EWO splice a small dynaglide loop onto the end and clip a biner or my retrieval hook onto that. Low or retrieve things as necessary.
Same here. And it always helps to figure 8 the dynaglide afterwards, then fold it in half and secure it with some stretch cord and a cord lock.

This is what I do too. Small string so I sometimes wrap it around something so it doesn’t dig into hands pulling down(especially if I forget to remove/loosen tether locker at the top) but that’s worth it for how small it all rolls up. Biner works, or even the bottom of rappel rope.

I do the same as well. I tie the dynaglide in a bowline to my tetherlocker. Without a clip on the dynaglide it stays nice and neat after figure 8 warp and stow in the inner divider of my FILBE assault pouch. I started using the Assault Pouch to hold my rappel line and pull down and find it much more user friendly than my roll up.

Figure 8 wrap you have to not pronate your wrist so you wrap it "flat" or else you put a twist in with each wrap. It's a subtle difference, pay attention.

I use 550 cord. I tried dynaglide, don't like how thin it is.

It take a little muscle and the proper angle sometimes to get that friction to pop.

I use 7/64 amsteel, half because I had some extra laying around, half because I didn't like how much Paracord stretches when my rope gets a bit hung up. Figure 8 storage and mini s biner for the bow pull up etc, same as the Paracord crowd. Typically I'll girth hitch it to my rope instead for pulling down though in case I really need to yank on it.

I also use about 40 ft of paracord with two biners to pull up my bow and retrieve my rappel rope. When I get up to height or when I get out of the tree I always figure eight wrap it (this is key) and stow it in my side pouch. I've been doing that for years with zero tangles.

I typically use an exploding hitch (currently the Maverick) of some sort when I get to height so paracord is relatively easy for me, however you can still use paracord if you girth hitch your rappel rope to the tree using a quick link.

Try 3 or 4 mm accessory cord, (I use 4mm) stiff enough not to tangle and big enough to comfortably pull up a decent amount of weight and pull your rappel rope down
It also figure 8's well.

Make sure you walk far enough away from the tree when you are pulling, you don't want to be pulling straight down.
It seems the farther you are away from the tree, the easier it is to release the rope from the tree.

I use at Nitize camjam aluminum rope tightener as they call it, and the rope is from Hawk. It's flat which I like a lot for ease of gripping instead of paracord. For hauling up, I clip onto the gear hanger rope that's secured to the tree, then I start hauling up and wrapping figure 8 style to prevent tangles when unfurling for let down. The best part is the camjam feature prevents the line from slipping down and putting pressure on your hand while pulling up the rope. You can stop at anytime without worry that you'll cut the circulation off or cramp up if having to wait out a deer that is coming towards you or something like that.

I use my Doyle's for bow pull-up and then lower the bow with rappel rope and use the Doyle's for pull-down rope. I like that it plays out as I climb or descend and doesn't get tangled or need wrapped after using.

I e done this same thing and the best rope management I came up with worked great. Find one of the little “bags” that sunglasses come in (can be any back….a Crown bag for instance) and tie it to your rappel rope at the point where you would normally attach it. Also tie the pull up/down rope at this point and keep the rest stored in the little bag. You can figure out the rest. Worked great.

I've done the paracord. Too stretchy. I've done the Doyle's. Too heavy. I've done the Dynaglide. Too thin/painful and increases the "walk away from tree" effect. I've done JRB exploding hitches with all of the above.

This year I'm using a quick link with the new flexi ohm from ITO and this brilliant amsteel pull down rope. WILL NOT trade this for anything. Light. Not bulky, but easy to pull up and down with bare hands. ZERO, and I really mean, ZERO stretch (my Dynaglide stretched). Rope & quick link pop right off the tree. I have not had to walk away at an angle so far. No biners. Just use the end loops to form girth hitches. No metal! Totally worth $15. Great job ITO.

But the above is how I’ve been doing it for two years now, except a dog leash instead of a Doyle’s.

Dog leash with my old throw rope replacing the leash.

I use dynaglide as my retrieval rope only. Have a cheap metal carabiner tied on there that I clip to an OHM tether lock before I rappel down.

To pull my bow up I have a spliced dynaglide loop with a clip on the end of my rappel rope.
