Rope scent

Next
Made this mistake last year. I forget to pull up my bow pull rope and left it dangling about 3 ft off the ground. Sure enough when the sun came up here come the does...straight to the base of my tree sniffing out the rope. Lasted about two seconds of sniffing then busted and didn't see anything else all day.
P.s...we cant shoot does on the majority of our wma's in Florida....dummest rule ever. I swear the doe know that that and walk around like they own the place!

What about spikes? Can you shoot a spike? Five years with no deer and some spikes would be dying.
you can shoot doe on most WMA’s here in Florida. It’s usually only during primitive weapon seasons. They usually end the legal hunting of doe post rut (since ideally they would be starting the pregnancy cycle.

The only one anywhere near me that allows doe is Goethe forest, it's usually flooded during archery and they run a lot of dogs. I live in north central florida about 1.5 hour north of Tampa in zone c. Almost all of the wma near me are buck only with the exception of Goethe. And no spikes either. In my area and zone c most legal deer must have a minimum of at least 2 points on one side with a a 5" main beam and each antler points must be 1 inch or greater, a couple others close are 3 points per side with 10" main beam and 1" antler points. Hey wait you there...Mr deer could you hold still just a little longer I need to grab my tape measure!

Each wma (wildlife management area) has its own individual rules....here is a random exampl below..... A spike with antlers less than 5" can be killed and considered a doe or the antler has to be over 10"....most of them have 3point on 1 side or 10" main beam antler requirements....in a nutshell...if u want a doe/spike on public u gotta hunt archery season

Edit: with a few exceptions majority of the quota hunts are 3 days... So essentially each season has 2 hunts that lasts 3 days. Archery 1 or 2 muzzleloader 1 or 2 etc...
The wma that don't have quota requirements are really crowded

And I have 7 wma within an of me. Like I said only Goethe can you hunt doe, and homosasssa if your lucky enough to draw one of the 25 lottery permits. This includes... homosasssa wma, citrus wma, halfmoon wma, chassahwitzka wma, flying eagle wma, green swamp wma, and finally croom wma. That's almost all of them in zone c.

I guess you got to pick up bow hunting in Florida if you want to put meat in the freezer. In the northern zone in Wisconsin we have limited does tag sales. You either go stand in line or get on the internet and get randomly put in line to try to buy a tag for your county. You are allowed to buy one doe tag per day. Most of the preferred counties are sold out on day one. You always need a few back up counties in mind in case your first choices are sold out. My wife and kids also hunt with me so we always come away with 3-4 tags for our county.

Flying eagle you can take doe during archery and muzzleloader, green swamp you can take doe, half moon you can take 1 doe, and homosassa you can take doe during archery…..
On top of that, there is bayard, lake George, Sante Fe swamp, Thomas creek, and many others in zone c. I know you have 2 or 3 crazy ones because your season starts post rut so you can’t shoot them then, but the three I listed all allow doe to be taken during archery and some during muzzleloader. If you can down load the FWC app and you can use the quick find option to get the brochure for any WMA you hunt…

ok no more thread detailing….. guys sorry

ps as stated earlier pull you ropes and bow strings up with you and always hang your ropes up to dry if they get wet (out of the sunlight) I hang them up across my garage with a circulating fan on them to dry quicker

We like to make it tough to eat down here. Quotas, limited hunt opportunities, only doe for primitive weapon seasons, oh and our deer are barely the size of coonhounds so your target is much smaller as well lol
