I am going to try a ROS this season. I just got some awesome ones from @Treehopper2. Thanks again!

Now. I had my setup with a platform all figured out and haven’t needed to change a thing for two seasons.

Now when I climb the tree and I get to the step where I would attach my platform to the tree, it is normally clipped to the back of my waist on the molle loops of my saddle. I un click it and instal it, attach my tether above it and climb up onto it and I’m done.

Where are you all placing your ROS as you ascend the tree and/or where are you putting them prior to attaching them to the tree but where they are still accessible and not clanking around like a banshees ankle chain?

Thank you in advance.

It depends on your ros. With sky hooks, squirrel steps or other 1” or narrower steps I use a vintage Trophyline pouch. It goes in the middle rear of saddle. My ring of steps goes in the center pouch along with my gear hanger. The pouches on each side are just right for an oplux linesman’s and tether. It isn’t the quality I hoped for but I haven’t found a better pouch to put a ring of steps in. I just slide my steps down to the end with the metal hook. I get them slid tight together and fold the end with the hook over the step and wrap the other end over and around the steps until I run out of strap. I then place the steps in the main pouch and zip up.

I have two of these and they are perfect for steps and climbing/rappelling stuff!

I run a niteize gear tie through the hole in bottom of four or five squirrel steps. I set them side by side, twist the tie tight leaving as long of a tail as possible. I loop that around left lineman’s loop. Makes no noise on walk in, easily unhooked with one hand. No pouch needed.

I place them in the same dump pouch where I keep my linesman rope and tether. I keep it under my lineman’s rope and over my tether.

There's no shame in his no pouch game.

I like having dump pouches. Can carry grunter, thermocells, some extra carabiners. Tether and linesman rope. I can tuck my bridge tail in one while I walk in. It basically keeps me from having a ton of stuff dangling behind and beside me when I am walking through all these think palmetto hocks and thorn brush. Knowing me, I’d sound like a heard of elephant pulling through the palmettos with ropes swaying behind me. Two dump pouches and it’s all nip and tuck. Lol I do think I’ll try hanging my ROS behind me tightly like they do though. If it don’t work out, back into the dump pouch it goes lol

I use 5 Treehopper steps. I slide them together, wrap the strap around them several times and then cam the buckle over to keep them tight. They get strapped on the side of my pack for the walk in. When climbing I have a small loop of paracord attached to the buckle and they get hung on the back of my saddle by a kydex clip purchased from EWO.

Same as described above except I have mine rolled up in top compartment of my pack and just reach to get them out over my head. Pack is unzipped before I ascend the tree.

Dario and @kyler1945 I actually like that idea as well. I’ve always kept mine in my dump pouch because they roll ups so small and tight but the idea of a gear tie through the hole sounds even better. Thinking I may try that this season.

The gear tie is nice because I can hang on my lineman’s belt if I need to reposition slightly or something before hanging paltform. And then it gets used for other purposes during the hunt. Simple, multi purpose.

I have one on the post of my platform (when I use it) so that I can do the same thing. It’s like a nice little here hold this set of hands while I’m wrapping the strap around the tree lol

Never tried it on my SS though… Definitely gonna give it a go
