Saddle friendly Bino harness

I just bought a marsupial bino harness and I’m not sure yet for exactly your reasons, I’m going to get a Rick Young harness to and give it a try, my binos are heavy.
Can you share your thoughts on the marsupial and RYO, now that you’ve had some time to use them?

To be honest I haven’t even used my RYO yet it’s still in the package, I also bought the Alaska Guide Creations Kodiak Cub Max, the Marsupial and AGC are both quality items and I can’t pick a favorite, one draw back of my Marsupial though is I use a compass a lot and the magnet in the flap screws that up so I have to remember it, the Marsupial is more stream lined than the AGC which is nice, but I can also adjust the AGC to ride lower on my chest to it’s not up so high which drives me nuts depending on what I’m doing, plus the AGC has a bunch of extra room for stuff like milkweed, compass, cell phone, I think the AGC is probably my favorite, I bought it off the classifieds here at a great price and so far it’s what I use the most, for typical quick whitetail hunts where the walk in is close I would say something like the RYO system makes more sense, most my deer hunting resembles elk hunting in that I walk all day on end usually at higher elevations and climbing steep terrain and I have to pack accordingly, my binos are big too Leica 10x42 so I need a hefty harness, my AGC holds my knife, compass, cell phone, a couple snacks, zebra light, so basically all my quick need items are strapped to my front eliminating digging through my pack for them. I don’t know I hate clutter and extra stuff that just makes things complicated I like to keep it simple, I thought a big goofy bino harness would always be just that but it’s starting to grow on me, I think if you have a pack system dialed in and just want a simple way to cary binos then the RYO is probably the ticket, if you can utilize the extra pockets of the larger ones then a bigger system like the AGC are the way to go. Good luck!

Have you used any in the saddle?

Yes and they are a bit much in my opinion, the bigger systems like AGC, and Marsupial, for me it was way to much going on up in the air and the bigger bino harness was rubbing on my bridge and not super comfortable, so yea I haven’t tried the RYO yet but in a saddle but I would start there first. When I responded earlier I forgot this thread was about being in a saddle with binos lol, I saddle hunt when I hunt elevated, bow, but most of my hunting is on the ground with a rifle, still hunting and tracking, upstate NY so we have just a couple weeks of bow season and almost 2 months of gun, I used the AGC all of bow season with my saddle this year and it worked but like I said it felt over kill up in the air and restricted, hope this helps!

Rick Young x 17. I got the bino cover plus harness and I also did the range finder attachment. I love it all. So minimal and comfortable. Easy on and off.

I like the Alps harness, because it sits up nice and high, and has a quiet closure. I added the rangefinder pocket. Doesn't get in my way when climbing or in saddle, and I keep my milkweed pouch right in the pocket with the binos.

Sitka mountain optics. Fits great, nice and tight to the body. Magnetic flap stays out of the way. Zipper pocket behind binos for tags/license along with a non-zipper open flap for your phone. Comes with two pouches as well. Keep my vortex rf on one side with tons of room to spare (could probably fit two of them) and my headlamp and release on the other side, again, with TONS of room to spare.

I have the enclosed marsupial harness, no issues when you tighten it up. If you have expensive Binos, it’s a great choice.
