Saddle recommendations with injury

Hi

I want to enter into saddle hunting. To be honest, I am worried about groin pain. I had a botched vasectomy that causes groin pain if my legs stay scrunched for long periods. Do you think a saddle would irritate this? Is there pressure on the legs that causes them to smash together? Or is the pressure felt more elsewhere, such as the back? Would a JX3 hybrid saddle be a better choice?

Leg loops could be problematic for you. I feel like the saddle will be less important than the platform style, I would use either a larger platform so you can spread your feet out or use a ring of steps so you can straddle the tree and keep some space between your feet and legs. The best answer, as usual, is to try several saddles if possible. You could make a fleece saddle to try out at ground level to check for any major discomfort before diving in further.

I don’t know your answer in any simple fashion. But what I do know is getting comfortable in a saddle even without an injury can be somewhat time consuming. You’ll need to adjust and find your happy place with pretty much every saddle out there. The downside would be the ability of trying out a saddle without purchasing every thing needed. Finding a get together of some sort would be best and least expensive option. Lots of folks around this place willing to help too. Upside is “maybe “ you can get any saddle to be comfortable even with the injury. You will just have to try and see. I like the leg loops and sometimes make them real snug, but a lot of folks cut them off first thing and never use them at all…..I’d recommend the use of them especially at first.

Check the meetups section on this forum…..your at the right place to start, just by being here!

Well, I said screw it and I jumped in fully. I will fight through the pain. I bought a Buzzard Roost saddle, a Cruzer mini seeker platform, and vapor lines from Latitude. Everything should arrive today. I cannot wait to try it.

This might sound crazy but you might want to try wearing a jock and a cup if you experience the issues you described when you start practicing with your saddle. This might let you get it dialed in as far as general or expected comfort such as hip pinch, back fatigue, leg fatigue, and seeing if the leg straps work for you. Then go back to normal attire and see if the groin pain develops.
One tip as to leg straps, i wear mine very loose not snug at all. I have a latitude method and a JX3. With the Latitude saddle I wear in walking in no matter the distance with leg straps fastened but loose. With the JX3 I put the leg straps on when I start to climb due to they are used as straps to hold the seat up and my pack to the saddle while walking. JX# is like sitting in a comfortable chair, it is more bulky and a little more difficult to get is position for some bow shots but is great with a gun.
I love both of my saddles for the purposes I use them for, mobility, safety, comfort, less weight than a climber and the general fun factor of rappelling out of the tree.
Good luck with your new adventure.

You won’t regret it! If you didn’t have the money, you wouldn’t have bought it. That buzzard roost saddle is sweet! I haven’t climbed with mine yet, but I’m glad I have it will be in it this year for sure!
