Saddle safety redundancy systems (what do you do?)

I'm doing some research and I think others may want to learn from it as well.

I've seen many folks have a redundancy safety system (second prussic knot, double bridge, etc)

Just curious what different folks do to have a back up in case of one-point of failure?

If you don't do anything extra and are of the "redundancy is redundant" and "my saddle is safe and don't have time for it" you need not reply. I think you should do what makes you feel safe and if you feel you don't need it, that is fine.

My plan is to run a sling from my bridge to tether friction, but then the single point of failure is my bridge (which will be adjustable webbing)...so not really sure other than wearing a rock harness AND saddle or a second bridge of fixed amsteel.

I tied in a second bridge on my Mantis (OpLux) , I actually did this so I had a second bridge to play with a shorter or longer bridge, however, its tied in on both bridge loops with figure 8's and stopper knot, just way to much work to try and change (knots get tight with OpLux). Soon will be ordering from DanO to make a adjustable web bridge (stock will remain in place). I also have a riggers belt, I have a second OpLux tether I can tie from tree direct to the riggers belt, its actually quick and easy, of course, if I am changing the length of my primary tether (or bridge) then have to adjust backup.

I thought about adding another bridge to the same bridge loops on my Mantis but wasn't sure how to attach it. Do you know another supplier for the OpLux or other 8mm rope?

Would this make a good back up bridge?

Honestly, I don't do anything accept hook the tail end back to my carbineer. what i do is inspect my gear often replace it at any sing of wear and as a minimal I replace my tether, bridge and stick ropes annually. probably a tad overkill on replacement, but just something i choose to do.

I will hook a second prusik to my tether once in a while, or a lineman’s in addition to the tether. I also have a sling I can girth-hitch to my bridge if I need. I also tie the tag end of my tether back onto my bridge almost 100% of the time, unless the trunk is huge. Then, the sling or second prusik work best.

I’m new to this. Could you post a picture? Thanks

Just tie an loop in the end of your tether with a figure 8 knot. Then just loop it back into your carbineer on your prussic or ropeman. Its only a backup for ropeman or prussic - if bridge or tether breaks your still going down/

While practicing with my saddle before season I thought why put my linesman belt in a dump pouch when I can leave it hooked up and just pull it up between my bridge and hook it in the carabiner with the bridge then I have a douple bridge. So I thought why not back the tether up and got some strap daisy chain, run the big loop thru the small loop then I take my linemans belt off one side and run it thru the big loop and then into the carabiner, doesn't get in the way and everything is backed up except the saddle itself.

I use 2 Ropemans, one on my tether and one on my lineman's belt. After clipping in to my tether, much of the time I keep my linemen's belt around the tree, but fairly slack. I find it faster with less movement for me to go from a full seated position where I rest my knees on the tree to a standing position where I'm near vertical close to the tree using my lineman's belt. I'll grab the end of my lineman's rope and pull it forward through it's Ropeman, which stands me up one handed, instead of trying to reach up to my tether.
I keep my bridge very long when seated to take pressure off of my hips. This is very comfortable for me, but leaves my tether Ropeman above my head. I can tighten up my lineman's belt and just stand right up, leaning back into it without as much movement as getting to my tether. I guess this could be like a second tether, I always have 2-3 Wild edge steps I am standing on that the lineman's would not get around, even when slack.

You could take the free end of your tether and tie an Alpine butterfly and clip that to the lineman's belt loop on your harness

That's exactly what I do; you have to put the tag end somewhere. This method backs up your friction hitch (or RM1) and your bridge. I'm really not concerned about my tether braking.

I've thought about adding another bridge to my lineman's loops. Since I use a HSS tether as a lineman's rope, it would be easy to just turn that into a secondary tether and attach it to the secondary bridge on my lineman's loops.

Anyone do this? How do you attach another bridge and where do you get it (amsteel?)

I have no experience with climbing or its related knots. Would this just be a back up connecting to one side of the saddle as a fail safe? Thanks!
