I’m a mobile hunter on public and new to traditional gear, do you guys prefer saddle over stand and is it possible to shoot trad bows from saddles.

I’ve never had an issue shooting from either a saddle or a stand. I use both depending on the situation. I shoot 62” recurves and 64” longbows for reference. I’m 6’2” tall, so that helps with either setup. Not that it matters, but the ground is slowly becoming my favorite. Good luck and do a lot of practicing from above. Things are different up there!

Have a great day!

What he say's^ although I'm 5' 7" and shoot a 58" recurve it's actually easier for me in the saddle or stand than on the ground as I don't have to worry about ground contact with the lower limb. Try it as no one can say what someone else is comfortable with.

I have not hunted with my longbow out of my saddle but I did get out and practice shooting out of it a good bit to see if it caused issues. I am 6' and shoot a 68" Hill style longbow and it was no problem.

I have used it out of a small lockon (Summit microlite) with no real problems. You just have to be aware of the limb tips and the stand.

More and more I am paring the longbow with my Packseat or a Torges style tree seat. Something about trad archery for me just fits with hunting off the ground. It sort of just goes together in my mind.

I struggled initially shooting my 64” recurve out of my JX 3 Hybrid. The seat frame was wide enough that my bow string was contacting it at full draw while seated on steeply angled shots. I purchased some Uukha S curve limbs to shorten my bow and now I shoot better out of the JX 3 saddle than I do on the ground. Additionally I will typically just push into the leaning position for the shot which completely removes the seat frame from the equation.

I love everything about hunting in a saddle except shooting out of it with my longbows and recurves. The bridge gets in the way for me most times.

The bridge is only a problem if you don’t lean into the shot. You need to do that anyway to maintain proper form. FYI I have drawn and shot under the bridge when needed.
