Safeline as tether for permanent stand?

Has anyone used something like the muddy or hunter safety safeline as their tether? I currently take my tether with me to all my private land permanent stands but am wondering if it it would be safe to leave a safeline in the tree during the season to use as my tether? That way i don't have to climb with my linemans rope and transition to the tether at climbing height.

Also how many of you use your saddle on private land with permanent stands or platforms? Or are most of you using it purely as a mobile tool?

Yea don’t do that. Squirrels chewing on the rope, weather fatigue, and who knows what else.

Don’t leave rope that you’re gonna trust to hold you 20ft up in the air out in the elements year round.

Plenty of guys hunt private land. The tether is so easy to attach just bring it with you. If you want to use one of those lines in conjunction while climbing go right ahead but it doesn’t make sense to me to use it in the way described.

Climb with your belt and transition to your tether. The belt helps when climbing. If you want to stay attached to that thing go ahead but don’t get rid of the lineman’s or the tether.

I see where your coming from, especially on private land. But if you’re going to do this please backup your tether. I think climbing with the safe line is fine and hanging might be fine, until it breaks, but just grab 10 feet of oplux and make a super light tether to go with you when you hunt.

Yeah weather fatigue is what I was worried most about. I guess it's probably not the end of the world to just hang my tether every hunt.

You're right about backing it up. I think using the safeline to climb would be better than my lineman rope but probably best to use the tether at hunting height.

I use the Hunter Safety System lifelines a lot with my hang on stands. I've never had squirrels or any other critters chew on them. HSS recommends replcaing them every two years due to deterioration due to sunlight and the elements, but my personal assessment is they hold up really well. I put them up in the fall when I start hunting and take them down at end of hunting season, so they are not exposed to the elements year round, especially that UV radiation from summer sunlight. So I use them more than 2 years, but my own decision on risk. I think the main problem of using one for saddle hunting is that they work the best if you tie them off at the bottom of the tree. That way, as you climb the tree, and pull the prussik knot up the rope, the rope does not pull up as well since it is tied off at the bottom. So if you used it as a tether, it may be hard to swing around the tree for different shots, since the lifeline won't move much since it is tied off tight to the bottom of the tree. You could probably tie it off to the bottom of the tree and leave some slack in the rope, and still manage to pull the prussik knot up the lifeline rope as you climbed the tree, but may not work the best.
