Sage Samick.... to good to be true?

I started with a 45# Sammick Sage when I decided to go Trad. It is still my second favorite bow behind my new Acadian Woods 3 piece Carbon Reflex Recurve. What someone else said, get the fast flight string.
It's not a looker but shots great. The Sammick is a great bow and has taken lots of big game.

I have a 45# one. I will agree on the fast flight string change. I put a fast flight flemish string on mine and it was way more consistent for me to shoot once the string was stretched. I would also add that you should get a t-square and check the brace height when you string it up once you have it tuned.

I got my new sage and it's beautiful. I took it to the shop and we put on the Bear hair and leather striker plate on it. I got 6 cheap arrows ( they seem to fly nice) for practice. They didn't have a fast flight string, so I'll shoot the string it came with for a while. Over all I'm very excited to get going. I wanted to thank everyone for their input.

I did have them check the brace height, 8 inches dead on

You may find it tunes better at a different brace height, but once you find the sweet spot make sure its at that measurement everytime you string it up. Also, as the string wears in it will stretch and lower the brace height. You will need to add twist to the string to bring it back up.

I do have a bow square and will keep an eye on it. How long can you keep it strung? for sure a day, but do I have to unstring it it every night?

Modern bows arent like the ones of yesterday. I leave mine strung till I need to leave the house with it. I shoot almost daily. I hope your using a stringer and not the old school over the leg. Odds of ruining a limb are far greater during stringing than leaving it strung.

I only unstring my 2 main hunting bows to fly somewhere, to change strings, or if I am leaving my backup bow in a hot tent. Most damage done to a bow is done while stringing.

Lets talk a bit about how you shoot. Unless your wanting to do trick shots or long distances, I suggest 3 fingers under the arrow. This requires a nock point above and below your arrow. Start the bottom of the top nock in the 1/2" to 5/8" above the rest.

I am shooting three under. The guy at the bow shop set it up 1/4 high and only one nock. I'll change it this afternoon. I don't have a glove or tab. Any recommendation?

I've only shot it a few times when we were indoors setting it up. Yesterday between down pours I shot out in the yard. The arrows seemed to fly ok. I'll move the nock up and add one more to do a comparative.

Start with a tab. Bateman cordovan is a good one to start with at about $12. My problem with gloves is they wear out quickly. I have been shooting the same cavalier elite tab for 8 years now.

I would order the string from 10 ring strings. Also Lancaster or kustom king will have much cheaper shipping. At 3 rivers you would pay $10 to ship that $12 tab.

Many good string makers, but 3 Rivers gives back to the traditional community with awards at the big shoots. Bateman makes a great tab as does black widow, although the BW will wear out quickly. My choice of tabs is Yost. Great leather and ergonomical fit plate. I have both the aluminum and plastic. I compete with both, but hunt with the plastic. Lancaster also gives back to the sport, but more on the compound side. They do treat us Barebow guys great at the classic every year. I have bought strings from 60x and been happy each time. Just tell them what arrows/nocks your using and they will get the serving size right.

With my Sage, I experimented shooting both split finger and 3 under. Shooting split finger gave me a much cleaner release. The main advantage of shooting 3 under is it gets the arrow closer to your eye if you are using the arrow as an aiming aid. I shoot instinctively so I'm not using any thing to "aim" so having the arrow closer to my eye is no advantage to me.
To shoot cleanly with 3 under the bow usually needs to be tillered differently. Just experiment with both shooting styles to see what works best for you.
I string my bow at the beginning of the season and don't unstring it until the end of the season unless packing for a trip.
