I’m a newb and before reading all the great info on here on how hard to splice the rope was I ordered 20’ to make my DIY lineman’s belt and tree tether. I’ve found enough info that I believe I can splice it but I’m not sure how big of an eye on the splice. Any suggestions? The video I’ve found are for a 1” eye and I think I’d need a bigger one.

For tether you want to something like 5”. That is you want to be able to pass a fist through it.

The linesmans probably could be smaller but maybe do it the aame in case you want them to be interchangeable?

I used this video. Not too bad to do. Hardest part is burying the core at the end. Wire fid is your friend for this.

I’ve watched that one and the Samson Vortex rope I believe as well. It does appear to require a wire fid but I’m going to attempt to make a DIY one and just use the fid measurements for the spacing. If it becomes too difficult I’ll breakdown and buy the fid kit

That Predator sheath is so tight when you bury the core you'll have a hell of a time with a regular fid. I used some welding wire with a wooden dowel for a handle. Taper the end of the core too before you try to pull it through.
