Can’t believe nobody has said EZ kut ratchet pruner. I don’t hunt without one. They advertise that they easily cut 1.5” diameter limbs, but I’m certain I’ve circle cut stuff closer to 2 in. Take it slow and they’re silent. used to use saws but they’re way to noisy and cause a lot of movement. EZ kut fits perfectly in the side pouch of an Sys hauler ES. And they’re tough, the blades last for years, I’ve cut leg bones with it when quartering.
That's what I carry, probably have it 20 years and still on the original blade.
I have (had) 2 EZKut and I hated them. The ratchet on both of mine would fail to engage ALL THE TIME.Can’t believe nobody has said EZ kut ratchet pruner. I don’t hunt without one. I would start making a cut, get half way thru, and the ratchet would slip...over and over. If I had my Felco pruners, I would have already cut thru and be on to the next cut. But with the EZ, I would be standing there, frustrated, cranking over and over trying to get the ratchet to grab. I dropped one of my pair walking out one day. I looked for them for about 30 seconds and then just kept walking. Better off without them. They sucked horribly.

Hand size or strength has nothing to do with it. If the ratchet slips, then the blade doesnt advance.Yeah, if you have small weak hands they can be hard to use.
The ez kuts work well, at least when I used them thy did. Ratcheting shears make it easier to cut through thicker diameter material. I can't speak to how long they will hold up or whether or not the ratcheting mechanism will eventually break or give you problems. I don't actually own a pair just used someone else's. Corona shears are what I use at work. The bypass pruners are really durable easy to sharpen, and nothing to break. Take the little rubber handles off as soon as you get them and throw those in the garbage. That's what I would recommend. The Hooyman shears above look gimmicky and have less than stellar reviews on amazon. If the EZ Cuts are not desirable either, what is the most trustworthy pair of pruners available.
Speak to me like I've never held a pair of quality shears
Are Florian available? After hearing the Wensels rave about them, I tried to buy some last year. Seemed like maybe the were no longer made?? A couple months ago, I tried a pair of Florian that my buddy has...they were impressive.I carry both. I prefer to use my Florian ratchet pruners, because they're quieter, but sometimes a small folding saw is the right tool for the job.
They were last time I knew, but I've had mine for years and they're still in great shape. Are Florian available? After hearing the Wensels rave about them, I tried to buy some last year. For the last 6 months, I've used Lanemaker ratchet pruners that Treehopper sells.
I really like them. I put them thru the rigors...cutting thousands of branches up to one inch to 2 inches. Really good pruners.
