Scent Use

Tinks or vanilla extract, put some on a cloth tied to a branch to get deer angled properly, but scents don't really bring them in, but if deer bass by they will usually walk over and investigate

i tried for years using fresh and frozen pee from does, does in heat, bucks, and rutting bucks.....used on drag lines and/or hanging around my stand....i saw no benefit to it and a downside of it being a stinky mess

I think if you went about it in a very strict scent free (ala' Eberhart) way there might be some benefits but you gotta make sure they don't smell you. I do have a friend who just poured a half bottle of Tink's on a blow down in a chopping once and 15 minutes later a 231 pound dressed 8 point came right in to it with his nose to the sky. Timing and circumstance also play a big factor imho.

I have had great luck with deer scents. From big woods to small brush lots, they've served a purpose for me.

I kind of pick and choose how and when I want to use them, and to what end. For example, I won't put them out this week or next unless I find a reason to.

I normally use them to make scrapes. A little doe pee, a little buck pee, a little me pee, and a dash of some kind of estrous during the good parts of the season usually gets their attention.

I’ve had times they worked great, scared deer and didn’t make a difference l.No different that vocalizations in my mind. If it works once on a great buck it’s worth it

I think the same as Droptinekrazy said.... all about timing. I have used it in a scrape and then a drag on my way to my tree. Before I climb up a buck comes running around snorting like a pig. Too dark to see him though.

Evercalm users?

I've used it and it served it's purpose for me. I think in the right applications it is quite a good product. I haven't observed any obvious negative reactions either. But it isn't a magic potion for big bucks, if that's what someone is looking for. I keep some on hand for the times I think it could give me an edge.

Whats a good brand of estrous to put in a mock scrape?

I use it on my boots and on a couple of trees around my set up every time I go out. I honestly believe it is the only scent that actually does what it is supposed to, calm deer. Highly recommend it.

It’s funny to watch them lick it off the trees. First time I’m like...what is this stuff. Seen it a lot now.
